When in doubt, I start with a Sharpie and a very fine grit stone. Cover the cutting edge of the blade with the sharpie and take a light pass with the stone. Check and see if the marker was removed, adjust angle as needed.

Welcome to the forum, Mark. Two things I keep near my WE setup are the cut proof gloves and a bottle of Vetbond (same as Dermabond but cheaper). The Vetbond is for the times I’m too lazy to put the gloves on.

Great advice, as always but you lost me at “two screw set-up that locks the angle adjustment position by the physical contact within the threaded holes in the black end bracket between the screw’s flat end of the inside ball end adjuster screw and the screw’s flat end of the outside locking knurled knob thumb screw”…..It doesn’t apply to me sin…[Read more]

Not sure which ones I got since I was among the first to order (I think) but I like them! Thank you all for coming up with the idea and making them available to us.

Just a quick update (thank you for the reminder MarcH). The morning of 9/20/19 I got another email from Kyle letting me know the new stones were included in my order from the previous day. Long story short, four days after initial contact with customer service I received the new stones. Excellent service, as always.

The Tormek contraption is your best bet (at least it was for me) in that case. Just remember to line up the knife’s blade with the metal blade that goes in the vise. There is a video of that but I’m on my phone and can’t find the bated thing.

I’m willing to bet your edges are one heck of a lot sharper than many, based on your forum presence and advice given which leads to the conclusion the test is safe(ish). However, knowing I benefit from a high klutz factor, I will refrain from attempting the afore mentioned test.

I must say, the WE Customer Service is the best I have had the pleasure to deal with. I contacted Kyle this afternoon via email. I got a reply within one hour! Wicked Edge team, you are tops!

Yeah! I don’t think I’ll be attempting the three finger test, I have no desire to be called stumpy, besides, I manage enought cuts without trying. Thank you tcmeyer for the video link.

There is no doubt they are an excellent addition and @tcmeyer deserves our thanks for the idea as well as Ed for making them available to all of us. My only hitch is that the brackets in the WE 130 are fairly short and I can’t get more out of the extenders. Even so, they are great. Many thanks tcmeyer and Ed K

As you all know (or maybe don’t ) I am new to the WE system. I have sharpened several knives, I rotate the stones and I try to be careful and not abuse them. Have any of you experienced the diamond layer flaking off? It is only happening to one of the 800 grit plates. I only use 70% isopropyl alcohol and a soft toothbrush for cleaning.

I use the sharpie for every stone change as an extra check that I set the right angle. You are correct in saying we use the sharpie line in establishing the correct sharpening angle but….Keep in mind that the sharpening stones can and will vary in thickness from grit to grit. The difference is minimal, but is there so, following the advice of…[Read more]

It is very sturdy (more than I thought it would be ) and I have the ability to tilt the work surface a full 45 degrees. I check the level with the cube and only after that I check sharpening angles.

My humble attempt at a “mobile” sharpening station that allows for height and level adjustment. The added bonus is that once folded, it has a small footprint.

Hi all,
I started out with a Wixey cube but soon-ish moved on to a iGauge cube. While the iGauge is better, the waiting time for it to settle down is driving me nuts. I started shopping around for a DXL360S, hoping Santa will bring me one. I soon came to realize that just about everyone and their cousins is selling a DXL with various prices and…[Read more]
