Thank you for the warm welcome, I am sure to learn lots on here.

I have not bought a sharpener myself but have gotten my hands on a Gen 3 and hope to purchase one soon.

One thing you can do in the meantime is to get your hands on some junk knives to practice on.  I had a set of Henckels laying around that did it for me but they don’t have to be name brand like those.  You can probably find some at flea markets and yard sales; maybe a couple of chef’s knives in different lengths, a Santoku, a boning knife and then some smaller ones.  Don’t learn on your daily drivers!!!  You will destroy them.
