I have 12 inch rods I use exclusively and wish they were a couple of inches longer, I’m guessing @tcmeyer made his own. It’s true, I still bump the tips every once in a while, but I’m getting used to it.

Brewbear replied to the topic New system in the forum Getting Started 5 years, 3 months ago
I am very new to the WE system but reading the posts from the forum members help me develop my sharpening “style”. I do use that up/down scrubbing in the beginning, until I develop a small burr then transition to a edge leading motion heel-to-tip and tip-to heel and finish with a few edge trailing heel-to tip strokes. I do this for every grit in…[Read more]

Welcome to the slippery slope Chazz. I have the WE130 and love it. I had the same constraint as you when I bought my setup, but I purchased the low angle adapter (filet knives and folding knives) the 800/1000 and 1500/glass sets as well. At the time the 1500/2200 and 3000/glass were not available but would have been my choice. The 800/1000 and low…[Read more]

Thank you for the posts and the detailed “review” indeed, it is going to help those contemplating the WE system. I have the WE 130 and no doubt it is a wonderful toy, especially with the additional improvements thanks to @aitscapes and @NotSharpEnuff. I have two other items present on my “worktable” a pair of Kevlar gloves and a small vial of…[Read more]

Brewbear replied to the topic Adapter Caps for Non Magnetic Stones in the forum Want to Sell 5 years, 3 months ago
I received my set, they look great. I haven’t had any time to use them but I can tell you all shipping is fast and the caps alone make it worth buying the set. I wish I know about the stops, They are first rate and, oh ,well, I guess I may have been among the first to get the caps (after MarcH). I will get around ordering another set of stops…[Read more]

Speaking for myself, I’d rather buy the whole kit. I’m saying this because my time is in short supply. I know it could get cumbersome to deal with but maybe having two groups would be an option?

Brewbear replied to the topic Need help in identifying an older pocket knife in the forum Off Topic 5 years, 4 months ago
Thank you so much Marc, it is the Tuckaway I’m looking for. I found a couple on ebay…..they do tend to be a bit pricey but I already bought one. The one that was “borrowed ” and never returned was a gift from an older gentleman and friend who passed away many years ago. The knife was one of the few things I had to remember him by and now being…[Read more]

Hi all,
This is an appeal to all you folks that have been around knives of all kinds. I need your help in identifying an old folding knife I used to have and really liked, unfortunately someone else liked it too and walked away with it.
It is about 3 inches long when closed, I believe the handle scales were brown micarta (not sure on the…[Read more]

Me too, me too! I received the “Ed K. adjusters” a couple of days ago and they are great! Thank you Ed for making them and thank you tcmeyer for sharing the mod! I wasn’t expecting the ratcheting doodads but many thanks for them, they are a great help. I also have the stone bumpers from airscape, all I lack now is a set of 50/80 (just in case I…[Read more]

@tcmeyer, does it count if I had an ice cream while reading your post? I was actually having a vape (kicking off a 4 PaD habit), eating a Klondike bar and reading the post! In spite of how you feel about your posts, I can honestly tell you they are very welcome, full of useful information (sometimes above my level of understanding in spots) and…[Read more]

I use the Tormek rather frequently and run into the same problem every once in a while. My thought was to fashion some sort of wedge inserts on either side of the knife handle to “cradle” it and center it at the same time. So far this remained just a thought since my time is in very short supply. some day….

I can see your point of contention, but speaking for myself, I see breaking in new stones as a chance to practice and hopefully better my technique. I was tempted to offer you my properly broken in 100 stones for a set of new ones, but I fear that’d piss you off! Consider instead that for Clay to offer “broken in” stones, he would have to add to…[Read more]

In addition to Marc’s comments, you have to know the gentleman in the video is a rather accomplished knife maker that knows his way around a sharpening stone. I didn’t agree with his statement that the markings on the horizontal rod are all you need, you are much better off using an angle cube in order to have replicable results.

This thread belongs on the front page! So, I had a chance to use the stone stops, and my one word comment is-marvelous!
They are leaps and bounds better than anything I used before and if any of the readers haven’t bought a set yet, you’re missing out!

I happen to be in @Organic‘s camp due to lack of time and an acute lack of mechanical talent. I do have a Work Sharp Ken Onion contraption and plan on using it for re-configuring edges/profiles, that is if I ever find the blasted thing after the move.
