airscapes replied to the topic Gen 3 Pro Vise Tension in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 5 years, 3 months ago
Sorry, my vise is the older version, was informed the newer is not open in the same manner so tape won’t help.
But if you have the older Gen 3..
You can use duct tape or better yet Black Gaffers Tape (not as aggressive an adhesive as duct) and cover the sides of the vise to keep the debris out of the moving parts. The Tape flexes and the vise…[Read more]

I think with a heavier spring it would not need to be tightened as I am doing. The other thing that is different about mine is the Drive wheel is ABS 3d Printed so less friction to grip the belt. I should probably find a semi soft filament and spin up another that is not so slippery. Doesn’t help I sanded the wheel with it running to get it…[Read more]

Thanks for the safe breaking process, will have to look over my higher grit stones with the microscope, as I think I may have a bugger hiding on one..
Was the glass tempered or just 1/4 plate like you would see on a table top or shelf?

airscapes replied to the topic Help with knife tip. in the forum Main Forum 5 years, 3 months ago
Just did this last night on my belt sander and a previous knife with a broken tip on a disk sander, just keep water handy to keep the blade cool. Just work the spline gently until it is back down to the bevel. Then sharpen normally on the WE

Thanks, and thanks for your help and encouragement to follow this path! I did not add the buffer wheel like you had done, have another Treadmill and plan to build a free standing buffing station with the steel from the 2 treadmills. Was thinking I would use both motors mounted on the same stand with a single speed control and switch left ri…[Read more]

Ramblings of a mad man!
Finally got all the parts fabricated and took time to make a new mounting platform that was a little nicer than the 1/2 exterior plywood I had initially used. The MDF is from one of the treadmills and has a nice gloss coating that the belt ran against.
The motor I ended up using was the one I got out of the first…[Read more]

Update: Added stops made to fit the original WE rods with a 1/4 diameter (these will not fit the new rods). The stops for current rods work just fine but I figured someone with the old rods may want a set that fit tighter before you tighten the screw. Just let me know when ordering.
Thanks,
Doug

I also bought them and used them once. There was a big hunk of diamond stuck on the 80 grit stone that scratched the knife below the bevel before I realized what was going on, lucky it was a junker kitchen knife. The are very aggressive and would guess they need a lot of breakin time. My knife had a couple of bad spots in the steel so the rea…[Read more]

they wear off.. its paint/ink on plastic. Plastic does not hold paint/ink very well so no real surprise.

Hi Tom, as Marc said Alcohol works great. It is also good for cleaning stones and Strops. I purchased a spray bottle of 99% rubbing alcohol at the drug store and then refill it with Denatured alcohol purchased by the gallon at the hardware store. The main reason I bought the spay bottle of alcohol rather than using just any spray bottle I ha…[Read more]

Still waiting for the potentiometer so have not done any of the finish wiring or fabricated the control board cover but did receive the angle guide. I am not very good at holding tools on a tiny angle guide, especially at the tip when it leave the sharpening surface. I know this will be a problem even thought I have only played with this us…[Read more]

Out in the open and proud to say I want to use power tools to make things faster at the start. Spend almost 1.5 hour on really dull knives with the 100 grit stone. Bought the 50/80 and that is faster but really need some break in, WorkSharp would probably have been cheaper and simpler to buy, but having fun with t…[Read more]

Making good progress, went with the original motor I had and opened up the hole in the case. Cut the left hand threaded pulley off the flywheel to snug the 3d printed drive wheel prior to tightening the set screw. The set screw alone was causing the drive wheel to cock even though it was a light press fit on the shaft. The pulley keeps it s…[Read more]
