I’ve also got one of these on order to test out. We had purchased one of their very first models that required the user to incrementally add steel shot into little cups in order to build force on the blade vs the testing medium. It was pretty cumbersome and we instead preferred to use our own jig built off the design from Cliff Stamp and…[Read more]

Spritzing them with rubbing alcohol and then rubbing the strops together should take care of it.

Slight correction – the vise screws are 1/4″-20 UNC. We use the 1/4″-28 screws for the guide rods and rod ends.

No names yet. They still need to be set up and programmed. Maybe their personalities will come out in the process 🙂

This isn’t really a product announcement, just showing off the new robots that will soon be helping to make Wicked Edge products:
They’ll help with loading/unloading parts into the RoboDrills and Makino 4-axis machines that make Wicked Edge sharpeners and accessories. A new 5-axis machine is headed to the shop soon too, which will allow us…[Read more]

wickededge replied to the topic Stone/Strop Question – 1500 Diamond vs. 1200/1600 Ceramic in the forum Getting Started 6 years, 3 months ago
True – we changed the specs of the stone dimensions to better fit the new style handles and the lead time jumped significantly for the first new run. Oldawan and a number of other dealers have them in stock.

They are from the same manufacturer and I believe the formulation is the same.

wickededge replied to the topic New to sharpening – question about technique in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 3 months ago
This is an excellent point, thanks Tom! I like to coach people to color in the bevels again once they’ve determined the sharpening angle they want and then alternate sides with every stroke until the marker is almost all gone and nearly invisible to the naked eye. At that point, it’s good to then focus on one side until you draw a burr along the…[Read more]

I have had great results with the Maxamet Native and no issues with chipping. Sadly, I lost the knife to Italy’s Airport Security since I forgot to stick it in my luggage when heading home. That was a major bummer. They wanted to detain me for carrying it, but thankfully there weren’t any supervisors around at that time of morning and they let me…[Read more]

Richard,
Thank you for posting this, it’s awesome. I understand the charts very well and I think they could be useful to a lot of people because the answer two basic but important questions:
- How does the angle change with knives of different heights with the pivot set at various distances from the center line of the blade?
- How does the…

Hey Alan,
Thanks for posting this. The product is now available on the website:Â https://wickededgeusa.com/collections/care-and-maintenance/products/protective-covers-for-wicked-edge-stones-and-strops. They’re pretty easy to use – you just slide them over the stone or strop to keep contamination out.

wickededge replied to the topic Angles – To Re-profile or not??? in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 3 months ago
It’s definitely still several months away, maybe a little more. It will be an accessory that works with our current models. I’m sorry to be so vague, but I need to keep it mostly under wraps until we get ready to release it. It will allow for very precise control of the convex profile.

We did change the model number a while back from 300 to 320. As far as specifications, anything made from March of last year to present is current and has all the most recent features.

wickededge replied to the topic Angles – To Re-profile or not??? in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 3 months ago
We have something special in the works for convex edges that is really exciting but still a little ways off. In the meantime, the making and blending of facets works really well and is faster than most people think. Another option for those Bark River knives is to get a set of blank handles from us and glue some mouse pad in and then use the…[Read more]

Hi all. I’m sorry I’ve been absent for a couple of weeks. I took the family on a long overdue vacation to Ireland and really worked to keep my focus on the trip and my family so I didn’t even peek at the forum once while I was gone.
