wickededge replied to the topic Creating a Burr…Mixed Message in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 4 months ago
Good post. I think that it’s possible for advanced users to skip the burr if they have plenty of experience and some way to reliably magnify the edge to see if they’ve successfully apexed the knife. Otherwise, developing the burr is an essential tool to verify the apex.

Blue Rondo a la Turk is another great Brubeck tune.

wickededge replied to the topic July 4th, 2018: How are you using your knifes today? in the forum Off Topic 6 years, 4 months ago
I used one of my Takeda knives (super blue steel) to cut up a fruit salad, then my pocket knife (Spyderco Manix 2) to cut rope around the yard for tethering some young trees and also to remove a splinter in my palm.

You can create a base pretty easily out of wood, or you can mount it to a workbench to make it more affordable.

It definitely should have come with feet. Please send an email to support@wickededgeusa.com and we’ll get some headed your way. It’s easy to switch the ball joints. The current set you have just screws into the L-bracket, so you just have to remove that with the large end of the Vise Key and then thread the new ones in by hand until you get most…[Read more]

@karl – I’m sorry to hear you’re so frustrated but I’m sure we can help you get to a place where you’re really enjoying the sharpener and getting great results. As tcmeyer mentioned, more info will help us troubleshoot whatever issues you’re having. Is your granite base missing one or more of its little feet? Can you share a picture of the joints…[Read more]

Tom, thanks for clarifying. We don’t use a rod to align the two halves. Instead, they each fit into a special fixture or “shoe” in the sonic welder. I don’t think it’s an alignment issue w/ the new design, but rather a welding issue that was causing material to flash into the bore. We’ve made a lot of little tweaks to the mold to prevent it from…[Read more]

Did this occur w/ handles that have the center portion in black w/ colored trays on either side or the two-tone version?

wickededge replied to the topic numbers indicating each stone's grit already wearing off? in the forum Suggestion Box 6 years, 5 months ago
There was a batch of handles that had foil stamping that came off too easily/quickly. We discovered it and let the vendor know and they were able to correct it in the next batch and we haven’t seen the issue pop up since.

wickededge replied to the topic Clay, where is the serrated sharpener? in the forum Suggestion Box 6 years, 5 months ago
It’s still a project in process, just a challenging one. I think I know what the solution is, am just waiting to find the right supplier for what I need at a price that can work. All the other things we’ve tried haven’t panned out enough to be commercially viable. Some work okay, but not well enough or affordably enough to bring to market.

Hi Shelley,
I’m glad the issue got resolved but I’m sorry we missed getting back to you quickly. The guys are correct – we’ve been at Blade Show since the middle of last week, so response times have been slower. Generally speaking, we’re pretty quick to respond and you’re always welcome to reach out to me directly: clay.allison@wickededgeusa.com

I can warn against Simple Green, it will make your stones fall off.

Just the bottom hole has a helicoil. The load on the top threading isn’t as much since it functions more as an adjustment device and a pivot.

wickededge replied to the topic Paperstone Base Discontinued? in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 6 years, 6 months ago
@NickedEdge we have pretty much run through our source of Paperstone for bases. The supply will probably be exhausted in about 2 months, so we pulled it from the website but still have it available for dealers who are selling it on Amazon. We’re looking at other options to replace the Paperstone, but that’s actually a tougher bill to fill than it…[Read more]

Hi Larry,
I’d go first with the 3 micron, then 1 micron film, then lower the angle a little and use your kangaroo strops.
