Thank you for the heads-up. I’ve forwarded this thread to our supplier to investigate. I’d noticed some flaking off of the lettering as well. It helps to know that others are also seeing the issue.

Demand has been really high this year. We’re hoping to get manufacturing cranked up to meet it within the next month or so with the addition of 3 new Robodrills and 2 new Makino horizontal machining centers. That’s on top of the original Robodrill, 5 other Makinos and 8 Swiss machines. Seems crazy.

They are a snug fit for sure. You can take some scissors and split the narrow end to make it easier to slide on and off without an negative effects.

This is very cool and very like something we’re developing here, though our version has the readouts built into a deluxe handle set rather than going to a phone.

You should be fine clamping your FFG knives in the Gen 3 Pro jaws without much tinkering since they’re designed to adjust to the grind. If you do find it difficult to clamp a particular blade, try cutting a small square of chamois and wrapping the spine of the blade with it.

Welcome to the Wicked Edge. Here is an article from our knowledge base that addresses you question in some detail: https://howto.wickededgeusa.com/knowledge-base/sharpening-grit-progression-for-all-wicked-edge-abrasives/. It might be overly comprehensive but should help to provide some background understanding of the grits available. Hopefully…[Read more]

I think one factor may have to do with the number of abrasive particles in contact with the metal; During a perpendicular stroke, nearly all particles with contact the blade. During a parallel stroke, only the number of particles that fits within the width of the bevel will contact the blade and they’ll be more or less the same particles through…[Read more]

Usually it’s just been to discover methods to make it possible and not for actual use.

You can definitely go a few sessions without adding more spray. Just let your results guide you – if you feel like the strops aren’t as efficient as they were, you can add a little more spray.

I’ve created a handful of truly scratch free bevels. It takes work! I have found that running the stones parallel to the blade seems to really aid the process of polishing though it’s no good for the edge. What I do these days when I want a very highly polished edge goes something like this:
- Profile the blade to an angle that is several degrees…

Great questions, great thread! All grits are the same angle and I try to be as light as possible when going for maximum sharpness. For EDCs, I stop at the 4/2. After using the knife a bit, I might decide to strop at the original sharpening angle, sacrificing some sharpness for a little more durability. I know that might seem to contradict what…[Read more]

I find continued improvement when I use multiple grit strops. An example is when I’m looking to get a knife passing HHT – the finer in grit I go as I strop, the better the knife does w/ the HHT test. It may go from HHT-1 to HHT-5 if I get all the way to .125 CBN on kangaroo.

The biggest difference between those units and the current models is the design of the clamp. We redesigned it from the bottom up in 2017 with the tension adjustment feature, which allows you to clamp very thin blades without needing the extra jaws for thin blades, a new cam, new cam follower, a different style spring system, narrower jaws for…[Read more]
