Eric, from my own experiences, yes, once the diamond stones have broken in, less loose and excess diamond grit is sloughed off from the stone paddles and onto the sharpener. Besides the stone debris, knives being sharpened for the very first time, with the W.E., will yield more steel dust as they are being profiled this first sharpening, then…[Read more]

I employ several sharpening strokes in a repeated process, grit and finer grit. These different sharpening strokes, this protocol, makes up my sharpening technique.
The burrs that are formed, that I did observe and photograph with the USB microscope, are an indicator that effective sharpening technique is being practiced. These burrs formed ar…[Read more]

I have no personal experience with this particular steel. After researching it appears it’s not a particularly hard steel, HRc 58-60(maybe). So it won’t be difficult to sharpen with the W.E. diamond sharpening stone set. I have sharpened many other Zwilling steels. Except for their super hard and brittle MC63 in the “Miyabi line” the oth…[Read more]

I believe the buggered threads seen in the end brackets on the newer Gen 3 Pros when first installing Ed’s micro-angle adjusters were originally caused by the opposing screw locking system utilized in the new Gen 3 Pros as delivered. I believe the two flat screw ends jammed together from opposite sides buggers the threads as they push each other…[Read more]

That’s an astute observation, WFB100. The older, pre-2018 model Gen 3 Pro had a different shape end bracket then your newest model Gen 3 Pro. Your black end brackets are vertically sided and symmetrical, inside and loutside. Expidia’s and my older models have a slanted or angled outer side, with only the inner side of the end brackets are…[Read more]

Glenn there are many many knives out there. As I learned to sharpen knives well with my Wicked Edge I also broadened my interest in and desire for better and different knives. You may be surprised that many fine chef’s knives, (and some folding knives too) are asymmetrical beveled knives.
You may find if you start with the WE130 in the Pro P…[Read more]

Welcome to the W.E. Forum Glen. I own and use both the Gen 3 Pro and the WE130, in the Pro Pack Iii. I can sharpen a wider variety of knife sizes, shapes, styles, and configurations with my Pro Pack III. Both modl sharpeners use the same single lever handled, cam action, self centering, floating jaw, tension adjustable vise. The differ in the…[Read more]

I have used these two:
60X LED lighted Jeweler’s Loupe and Hand Microscope .
I found I have an aversion to placing my fingers and leaning my face up very close to an exposed sharpened knife edge.
I gave up using both of those for the USB Microscope. This allows me to sit safely back where I can see my hands and fingers holding the m-sco…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum and sharpening community JP.
The WE130 included with the PPIII is the most versatile model, IMO. I would consider the WE130 more versatile then the Gen 3 Pro or the Commercial Series. If you were intending to sharpen mainly convex profiled knife edges and not “V” profiled knife edges, the Gen 3 Pro excels in t…[Read more]

A quick update (although not yet a solution). We’re working to solve the root problem, but until then:

Suggestion: Blacking over the previous stone scuff accidents with a sharpie marker helps you recognize new boo boos.

Another suggestion, is there any paint abraded from the vise or jaws indicating the stone was contacting them befre it allowed to make full, flat contact on that heel portion of the bevel.
Also, I was hoping you had the thumb stud protected with tape, which was why it didn’t show damage.

If I were to take a guess, it appears the thumb stud may be hindering your sharpening stone from sharpening down as low as it can sharpen forward, (i.e., towards the tip), of the thumb stud. Is it possible to remove the thumb stud to allow clear access to the knife bevel edge by the sharpening stones?
