Looks like some variant of the ZT 562. I have the ZT 562cf. It is a great knife but some how I’m not a big fan of the flipper tab knives.

Yes. It won’t last long but maybe with 20 degrees micro bevel it will be Ok. I will try how it works. I’m planning to sharpen this “on the field” with 20 degree ceramic ultra fine rod thing… 😀

Thank you. Reprofiling took the longest time with the 100 grit. The wole process maybe 1+ hours.
100 – 3000 diamonds. 6, 3, & 1.5 micron lapping films. Maybe the 6 micron lapping film was contaminated or not needed, but the result looked worse than after 3000 grit.
I was not 100% happy about the result, so I stropped with 4/2 & 1/0.5 …[Read more]

I did some dock fixing during the weekend and got my cheap 10€ beater knife in a quite bad condition. I re-profiled the knife from 22 degrees to 18 degrees and planning to use 20 degree micro bevel later on while doing touch ups. I might have gone a bit too far while enjoying the sharpening with this… 😀
I did some dock fixing during the we…[Read more]

Is the blade/edge near the sharpening choil thicker? It might change the sharpening stone angle and cause recurve and uneven edge.

I have been drooling the Shun Premier Tim Mälzer Series knives for a long time. Some day maybe…
Anyone have any experience sharpening those? They recommend sharpening with whetstones.
Would the hammered surface or a thin 61 HRC edge be a problem with WE?

If you have the current version do you love it? : Yes I have it. Love is a bit too emotional word in this context for a Finnish person like me, but I like it a lot 😉
Would you buy that model again? : Yes. It is easy to use and fast.
Do you find it’s limitations (14-27 degrees, arms are always at equal settings) to often be a problem? : I d…[Read more]

Lay replied to the topic Gen 3 Pro Vise Tension in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 5 years, 1 month ago
After removing one pair of washers I took the thinnest blade that I have.
Tensioner adjusted to 50% I could lift the whole Gen 3 Pro and the stones by holding the knife

+1
I removed one pair of washers and try if this will suite my needs better. I have couple of thicker hunting knives (thickest is just under 3/16″) and the minimum tension feels a bit too much.

Victorinox filet knife sharpened to 18 dps at 1000 grit has served me well this summer. I tried my other filet knife (Marttiini sharpened to 22 dps) and did not like it so much. Small difference and probably down to preferences. With 18 dps I can still sharpen it without LAA. I have it (LAA) but don’t like to use if I can get a way without using…[Read more]

Lay replied to the topic Can/will Gen 3 Pro Clamp damage blade coating? in the forum Main Forum 5 years, 2 months ago
MarcH. That is exactly how I sharpened my carving knife. The problem was not that the stones would hit the vise. It was that the Martef coated knife would slightly move despite of the real leather chamois. I have not had this problem with knifes without this type of slippery coating.

This is one area of the WE (Gen 3 Pro) sharpening that I’m trying to learn at the moment. How to tighten the blades to the vise so that they don’t move during the sharpening and not overly tighten to leave marks. It is especially challenging for me with the Marttiini hunter’s carving knife and other knifes with the similar coating. “Martef coating…[Read more]

Thank you tcmeyer for the great tips.
About the knob numbers. That looks really practical but I’m just the type of guy who want’s to keep everything as “clean and minimalistic” as possible. It might not be as functional but that is just me. I even have a custom Playstation 4 controller with all the button markings off 😀 Luckily it is quite easy…[Read more]

About three weeks ago I told that I had been drooling those stainless steel Micro-Angle adjuster locking Mods for the Gen 3 Pro. I even tried to buy the parts from McMaster, but I did not get a shipping price to Finland. MarcH suggested that I should contact Ed and he would take care of me. I had no idea how well he would take care of me…
