Hi Clay, are you talking about the stuff with adhesive on one side? Would the felt padding used on furniture work? Thank you.

I contemplated buying a Tormek T8 for a good long time but honestly, I couldn’t see myself spending that kind of money when my WE 130 serves my needs above and beyond my expectations. Not being as technically gifted as airscapes, I resorted to the metal file that MarcH mentioned and it worked very well but then I decided to buy the 50/80 grit…[Read more]

Brewbear replied to the topic How Would You Attack This Blade? in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 4 years, 9 months ago
It all depends on the steel used for the blade. Personally, I prefer the Hogue Doug Ritter in M390 or Griptillian in M4 or Hinderer xm-18 in M390 or TRM Neutron but I carry a CRK most days.

I really need more coffee, I had to look twice…..OK, three times, at your answer before it dawned on me you weren’t answering to yourself. The difference between Marc and Mark was hard to see when the coffee supply was depleted in the blood stream.
All that aside, I will agree that DLFs are hard to beat in getting a mirrored polish. I am using…[Read more]

My guess would be you haven’t a snow ball’s chance in he## to get them out. It would be nice, but….Besides, they are historical artifacts …..stepping off the soap box, thanks for the picture.

I order only from WE directly and I can tell you from personal experience their Customer Service is simply stellar. I don’t have enough superlatives to describe it. Several months after I bought my We 130 I noticed that the diamond coating on one of my 800 grit paddles was flaking off. I posted here and asked if it was normal. Several members…[Read more]

I got in touch with Mr. Tom Veff via his website ( http://veffsharpening.com/) and bought a CRKT sharpener from him. At that time, about a year or so ago, he still had a few sets left, I believe they were about $50.

Welcome Mark, the WE 130 will not let you down, I know because I’ve had one for about one year. The added stone stops, racks and micro adjusters the folks on the forum make are definitely a worthwhile purchase as well.

Brewbear replied to the topic Whats your experience with magnetic knife holding strips? in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 4 years, 10 months ago
I am suffering of tremendous kitchen knife envy after seeing @MarcH display. I too need a safe way of keeping my newly acquired and sharpened knives, especially after the last incident. Short story, my wife grabbed a towel off the counter, snagged it on the tip of one of my knives (set at the back of the counter, edge against the back splash) and…[Read more]

I’m interested too!
BTW Ed, I have several folders with M390 blades, it is my favorite steel by far (for now at least). I have a couple of Spyderco knives but as age goes up, ability to finger flick them open goes down (for me at least) so I’m happier with the Hogue made Doug Ritters RSK Mk1 and Hinderer xm-18. My best effort on a Ritter scored…[Read more]

Brewbear replied to the topic Angle cube variability/inconsistency and jumpiness in the forum Advanced Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 4 years, 11 months ago
It probably makes a difference but I would still keep it on my work table and “use it” especially when the little one is around. It would be worth comparing the readings between it and another angle cube for the sake of science.

I went with Wiha torx as well. I bought two sets because in one of my older folders the pin doesn’t have a detent to hold it in place and the previous owner used something akin to Locktite but blessedly not the red one. It took a bit of effort and a lot of words not to be mentioned in polite company but I got it done.

Welcome to the forum and your new addiction. In addition to Marc’s suggestions, I’d add the Tormek small knife holder https://www.amazon.com/Tormek-TOR-SVM00-Small-Holder-SVM-45/dp/B00CD7X1OA/ref=asc_df_B00CD7X1OA/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309832851244&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6377256659555475175&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&h…[Read more]

Brewbear replied to the topic How do you protect your blades? in the forum Benchmade 4 years, 11 months ago
LOL! So, you’re looking at that “evil” forum too? Since I can resist everything except temptation, I had to limit my time there. I did buy a PJ Inkosi and a Hinderer there, the prices were too tempting.
I ordered the Aegis EDCi since it will go on all my knives except the kitchen knives which will get the tsubaki oil. Thank you all.

Brewbear started the topic How do you protect your blades? in the forum Benchmade 4 years, 11 months ago
Hi all, I have recently acquired a Benchmade Mini Griptilian with a M4 blade. Since this metal is great for blades but it isn’t corrosion resistant, I’m looking for a way of protecting the blade. The knife is a limited production (#92 of 500) so it will be more of a “safe queen” delegating the cutting chores to the other benchmades or whatnot in…[Read more]
