Gordon,
I didn’t want to reply earlier because I knew the new Gen 4 was coming out. It wouldn’t be right if I had inside information and got a few more dollars for my Gen 3.
My Gen has a riser block (1.3″) added and my custom made micro-adjuster kit. It’s the later model with the adjustable tension control on the vise jaws. I have a brand ne…[Read more]

Tom_G,
I had trouble when the image size was over the limit. I don’t remember getting an error that said “image too big.”
That said, I now use the free software Gimp to resize my images before uploading.

Billabong,
Here is a pic of the ball joint parts from start to finish. Also, the Stainless knob process from cutting the barrel of and polishing it.
It takes a lot of time and effort to make the SS knobs, that’s why I offer plastic knobs which work as well for a lower price.

Chris,
PM me your email address and I will send you a brochure with my information as well as what Airscapes has available. I’ll also send MarcH’s brochure for his stone racks if you’re interested.

billabong,
The ball joints come with no threaded rod attached. I cut a 12″ threaded rod to size – 2″ for the WE130 or 2.5″ for the Gen 3. Then I cement them into the ball joint with JB weld.
I also cut ~.5″ from the ball joint which lowers the stone and allows for more stone usage on the Gen3 sharpening shorter pocket knives. Since I sha…[Read more]

Timm,
If you take a close up of the writing my wife might be able to decipher. When we enlarge the pic, it blurs out.
The first 3 characters appear to be Katakana and we can’t make out the following Kanji characters.

I’m settled enough that I found all of my parts and pieces to make kits. I have 5 sets of ball joints cut and ready to add the threaded rod. The Gen3 uses a 2.5″ rod and the WE130 uses a 2″ rod.
If there is interest PM me and I’ll make the kit for you. I just ordered 20 stone stops and 12 strop covers from Airscapes and I have the pr…[Read more]

NotSharpEnuff replied to the topic Is the Gen Pro 3 better for small pocket knives? in the forum Main Forum 3 years, 8 months ago
Steven,
I have both models – and I prefer the 130 for small pocket knives.
With the stock Gen3 you won’t utilize the top 3/4″-1″ of your diamond stones on small blades.
In my case, I printed a riser block and raised the vise 1.25″. The LAA works fine, I just don’t like messing with the allen tool to tighten the screws. FYI, I also have 12″ r…[Read more]

I also use the DXL360S , besides the precision it is re-chargeable via USB. I don’t have to worry about changing batteries.

BTW, I have a 3/4″ riser block installed below my Gen 3 Pro vise. I recently was doing a batch of knives and noticed that in every case, my angle settings were off by 3 degrees, relative to what I would have expected. The riser was installed to use more of the length of the stone faces when I do narrower knives. When sharpening short, narrow…[Read more]

Rodger,
Got the Laser Knife Edge Reader (LKER) a few hours ago. It comes with a spare set of batteries and a test blade. The laser is not centered or aligned when it arrives. You have to manually adjust three screws to center the beam. Not a very tight stable setup in my opinion. If you only use it a home and not take it on the road it prob…[Read more]

Thanks Rodger!
I just ordered one. I have the CATRA Hobbigoni and I use it all the time – before and after sharpening. One drawback to this model is that it doesn’t accommodate larger (spine->bevel) knives. This new one looks like it has more depth to handle larger kitchen knives. I’ll also compare the accuracy between them and post again.

NotSharpEnuff replied to the topic Can you use the WE to sharpen a sword? in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 4 years, 3 months ago
John,
I’ve done one sword about 3 years ago. It was not a “real” sword, but a replica or something from a flea market. I did it on a dare, from one of my golf friends. He travels around a lot of bad neighborhoods and keeps the sword in his work truck. He would lose in a gun fight but get maximum points for crazy.
It took me almost 40 hou…[Read more]

@Lay, I’ve sent a text to find out what model he bought. I do remember him saying that he ordered it with “custom” scales. I’ll know more later. I’m also not a fan of the flipper style or EDC’s with liner locks.
@Modernflame, that sharpener is what I call the “Big Rig.” Totally the idea and implementation of forum member MarcH. I don’t reme…[Read more]
