The Gen 3 Pro comes standard with 8″ guide rods. You may want a longer optional guide rod. ( at least 12″).
You’ll certainly need these for when you’re able to purchase the low angle adapter

Marc H replied to the topic Leading vs. trailing edge strokes in the forum Thoughts/Theories/Science Related to Sharpening 4 years ago
Rodger, I use edge-leading strokes with every knife I sharpen. Please exercise care with edge leading strokes. It’s very easy to catch a dangling finger with the exposed sharpened knife edge as you bring the stones down and into the knife edge.
I use safety shields made by “airscapes”. They place a physical barrier between my finger tips an…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum Scott. The Wicked Edge is a precision sharpening system….hence WEPS. It is not a quick sharpening system, or a simple system. It’s not designed with the “lazy man” knife sharpener in mind.
Sounds like you’d be better served to use a different knife sharpening system like maybe the Spyderco Triangle Sh…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic I have 2 sets of Henckel knife sets in the forum Tips for Specific Knife Grinds and Styles 4 years ago
All of those six knives top to bottom except for the third knife down appear to be serrated edged knives. I don’t like to sharpen serrated knives since it requires totally removing the serrations. I believe they were made originally as serrated knives for a reason. Maybe that steel just works better with serrations.
The dimples on the first an…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic How many knife blade edges and how to sharpen them in the forum Tips for Specific Knife Grinds and Styles 4 years ago
Google “Knife Grinds”. There are quite a few different grinds. I have determined what I’m working with, when I didn’t know, by comparing the knife with those images I found from Google. If I can identify a brand and knife model, I will google the knife to read what I can learn about it. It’s up to you to put in the leg work to take your hob…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Strop Covers (fit Old and New Handles) in the forum Want to Sell 4 years ago
The strop cover will work with the diamond stones and ceramics as they have similar dimensions. “airscapes” does make a deeper cover to be used with the thicker whetstones some of us use.
I cannot speak for how tight or how loose the fit may be with the Gen 3 Pro shelved base when 3 pairs of stones with covers are stored. My Gen 3 Pro mod…[Read more]

I prefer not to apply a second compound grit on old strop leather. You could never be sure with unexpected results whether that was due to bad technique or contaminated old leather. It’s easy enough to replace the leather strips. You can adhere the new leather with a hot glue gun or compound cement.
I had a set of Balsa Strops, early on. The…[Read more]

jrk, happy holidays to you too, and welcome back to the forum.
The latest version Gen 3 Vise now has a tension adjuster in the base facing towards the rear. You didn’t mention if your vise included that feature. That replacement vise is available if you desire to upgrade. It does improve clamping tension when needed.
There are now 1500, 22…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic When sharpening a knife how do you know what stones to start with in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 4 years ago
Welcome to the W.E. forum Kenneth.
It takes a good 10 knives worth of sharpening for your W.E. sharpening stones just to break in and begin to yield good consistent results. Coincidentally, that’s about the same amount of time and practice it takes most new users to figure it out and get the hang of sharpening with their W.E. setups.
I don’t…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Micro-Adjust Question in the forum Welcome Mat 4 years ago
Repeatability and consistency is more important then absolute accuracy. Realize the angles we’re working with are relative angles. That is we’re setting a bevel to an angle relative to the position of the WE130 and the knife’s position in the vise jaws. We’re using a properly zeroed angle cube to make these settings.
As long as the knife’s po…[Read more]

Rodger, welcome to the W.E. Forum.
The W.E. micro-angle adjusters have recently, (in the past few months), been upgraded to include the hex thumb wheel on the outside. This serves as a jam nut to lock the adjusters positioning. It can be either finger tightened or tightened with an appropriate wrench.
The thumb screw that positions the mini “…[Read more]

Adam, welcome to the Wicked Edge forum.
I have not personally sharpened this knife. From looking at the photos of that knife posted earlier in this thread, it appears you’re pretty limited to how you can clamp that blade. I’d attempt to clamp it on the narrowing tapered curving parallel flat surfaces on both sides of the knife just below the s…[Read more]

IXALU, Encantado de verte de nuevo.
Parece que usar velcro para sujetar las piedras y luego cambiarlas es un método ingenioso cuando tienes acceso limitado a las piedras individuales.

Marc H replied to the topic What type of knife is this? in the forum Main Forum 4 years, 1 month ago
It reminds me of the knives I’ve seen used by migrating farmers that follow the seasons relocating with the next vegetable crops they’ll be picking. I’ve seen videos as those pickers chop the vegetables free, through their stalks, followed with a few more chopping cuts, while hand held, to manicure the cut veggies, like lettuce, celery and…[Read more]

It sounds as though you’re doing quite well with your sharpening. Good deal!!!!
