I have 3 Lands. They take a beautiful WE too. Like $26. Search Amazon for Land knife 12C27. This one is with the G10 handles. I like this one better over their stainless (which is also beautiful) as it does not show scratches. A Chris Reeve large Sebenza starts at $350. For $26 this one even comes with a pocket ceramic sharpener for a quic…[Read more]

Nano oil is great stuff albeit expensive and a lot of hype for a lube. Probably better suited for knives with bearings IMO. I use a combo of grease with a drop or two of Nano on my Benchmades. Chris Reeve’s knives have no bearings only two flat washers with holes in them to hold their grease. This gives their knives a hydraulic action. Usin…[Read more]

The Chris Reeve folders I collect all come with a little tube of white grease which is their own formula. I also have Nano oil (great stuff).
But my favorite grease for knife pivots (and is the closest to the OEM Chris Reeve grease) is a tube of this Finish Line Fluorinated Grease used by cyclists around the world!
Available from Amazon. A…[Read more]

Before and after pics with one washer removed. First pic is where tensioner was maxed out at the minus sign (least tension I could put on the knife).
2nd pic is with the one washer out. Now tensioner has an adjustment to it. I’ll run a few different knives through and see if it works ok with a washer removed.

I have the latest gen 3 pro vice and for the first time I recently had to clean it out because it was grindy and I had to use the tensioner on the weakest setting. I’ve always felt it was designed too tight. But after using some Nano oil when I reassenbled it it is very smooth again but tesioner still useless. . I still have to use it on the w…[Read more]

Thanks for posting your experience with your Gen 3 Pro (I have the same unit). Your description almost sounds like a chefs assistant who is using the WE Commercial unit and uses it in a commercial kitchen to get their knives through the system fast. Always interesting to read the techniques of others.

The basic Bess unit comes with these little square disposable cardboard looking testing media. I preferred the testing medium that is a thin thread like material which comes in a spool which resides inside the upgraded aluminum testing fixture. This fixture is better than the plastic one that comes on the $129 model. It also comes with a fu…[Read more]

Oh please . . . That is “the” dumbest way to show people how to test for sharpness YIKES.
And why is he wearing his bathrobe for the video hahaha.
Spend a few bucks and buy the basic “Edge on Up” edge sharpness testing device.

The 50/80’s are great stones. They make fast work of raising a burr especially using them on premium (hard) steels. 90% of the time I only use the 8o’s. Trying to raise a burr on premium steels with the 100’s can take me 45 min to an hour sometimes on that first side. Premium steels also microchip easily so I tend not to use the 50’s for that reason.

Expidia replied to the topic For Sale: New Blank Leather Strops Pack – WESTRPOO in the forum Want to Sell 5 years, 4 months ago
Thx for the tip. I have leather, Roo and Nano strops. I lean more towards using the Nano with the .50 & .25 diamond spray. I like to switch the strop materials off from time to time to vary my finished edges and see what effects each strop material has on my final edge.

I’ll offer you $25 since I initially cut mine up pretty good on my learning curve (don’t stroke down) I know cuts don’t effect their use, but I don’t like looking at slices. Ship them the cheapest way you can as I’m in no rush.
Let me know and I’ll paypal you quickly.

Nice cheap setup Reedheads. I wish I had this setup when I converted an old serrated bread knife to a smooth edged utility knife. Took me many hours and wasted stone wear so much so I just had to re-order the 100/200 stone set. Next time I pull out my 75 year old bench grinder for projects where I have to remove a lot of steel or repair a c…[Read more]

Welcome to the forum: If I lived in Germany I would buy a used unit that usually comes with many add on’s included. They pop up here from time to time. Also join “Edge Snobs” on Facebook. I see more used units pop up there more often than here. Even if you only have one knife now once you start sharpening you will be adding more to your coll…[Read more]

You might even be able to skip the DLF’s after the 3000>microfine ceramics and then go right to stropping. This is my plan. I can’t personally verify this “yet” as I’ve only done a few touch up edges with my 2200/3000 and microfine ceramics. But below is a post from Clay on where the prgession on these new 2200/3000 can fit in. Of course all th…[Read more]

Thanks for the clear coat tip. The magic marker type sharpie I tried putting in the numbered groves I made from my Dremmel wore quickly off too. I’ll try the clear coat trick. I do have clear coat touch up bottles which came in both my SUV chip touch up kits, but those kits are ridiculously expensive and with very little product in…[Read more]

The nice thing about the LAA is it does clamp the actual blade which adds stiffness flexible blades need. Some longer blades you just do in two clamping steps. Doing the back section of the blade first and the moving it forward and re-clamping it to do the front section. I use a small piece of wood in my hand on the opposite side that Im work…[Read more]
