Great choice on the Gen 3 Pro system (I have the same one).
From my personal experience I’d also get a Tormec small knife adapter for around $39 too. Its great for smaller knives. The LAA adapter runs around $75 plus shipping and as organic noted its a must for thin blades. If you get the LAA unless you are ordering all at once WE’s free sh…[Read more]

OK thanks for that explanation Clay. I have a short vid of it and I was going to post it on Youtube but I didn’t because I did not want to deter anyone who saw it on Youtube from buying this accessory from you.
After the holidays, I’ll send the vid to Kyle to get his opinion on how loud mine are. Now I can see why the circles are there taken w…[Read more]

You can’t tell the difference when the paddles are on the rods! Their paddles are already proprietary. Why not just make the new paddles to fit point 0.25? Because using 0.257 keeps that size proprietary to WE.
$5.12 for two 0.25 rods which my other rods are is a hell of a lot cheaper than $38 with shipping. For +642% more for 0.02 ….…[Read more]

Update: if you want to make your own 12 inch rods that don’t sing to you . . . just stop by a local metal shop and they can cut 0.25 stainless rods while you wait. My shop doesn’t thread them, but I have a die set and I’ll put 3/4 inch of thread on myself leaving that extra 1/4 inch for a jam nut if I find I need one.

Mine sing like a “Canary in heat”….I’ll try lube (but I shouldn’t have to).
check the pics I took of the polished and the new textured 12 inch ones with my digital microscope.
I drive by a custom designs machine shop on my way to my office. I need to note again what TC mentioned about creating a shoulder before they turn the threads. This sho…[Read more]

Rippled is not an accurate description they have more of a texture to them rather than a smooth polished finish like their other sizes.

But why would I use steel that rusts when I could use stainless steel rods?

Thats what I commented on that singing makes so much noise IMO it will cause wear on the inside plastic diameter. I might order stainless steel stock off the net and make my own of their newer diameter size that helps reduce any slop.

Thanks Marc. Thats why I asked my questions as these as you say they are not counterfeit they are of a “new style” rods that are different from my other two “polished” sets. I’m still not a fan of them singing. And “singing” is a good term you used to describe their noise. The closest I could come was sliding up and down on an acoustic guita…[Read more]

Maybe thats why they also sell the 3000 with a glass platen on the other side, so one can go right to a DLP. I have not used them on a start from a profiled edge yet. The two edges I’ve done so far with my new 2200/3000 and the MF ceramics already had mirrored bevels and were already apexed.

Thanks Airscapes. WE might have switched manufacturers of these rods. They should be polished. I’ll discuss it with Kyle to see whats up. If they still have polished ones in stock Ill buy them when I re-new my 100 stones which will pit me over $100 for free shipping and re-sell these.

Thanks on the nuts. I quesioned it as one of WE’s vendors is selling them on Amazon (Optics Planet) and their picture shows a nut on each.
What do yours feel like. Do they feel polished like the set that came with your system or do they feel textured? The noise the paddels make going up and down on the rods is really annoying plus I’m sure no…[Read more]

Ya, I know what you mean. I was looking for that same info myself. WE can put the 2200/3000 up for sale on their site but they can’t update their grit/micron chart…. boggles the mind: https://support.wickededgeusa.com/portal/kb/articles/grit-comparison-table

Rummels, I had a similar question in anther thread. I bought the 2200/3000 and the microfine ceramic set last week to try and do exactly what you are doing. I’m not a fan of the DLF’s either. I’ve used them for a year now and just not a fan.

Can someone who has 12 inch rods compare theirs to the ones that I bought on Ebay that were sold as new Wicked Edge rods?
I would have bought them from WE, but I ordered $120 ceramic microfines with free shipping and did not realize until a day or two later that I forgot to add the rods. The rods alone are an extra $8.95 to ship which is almost…[Read more]

I’ll try a google search that will turn up how to clean your WE stones. There is probably a Youtube vid on it alrady.

I also have a clamp on light just above the WE setup. The scratches reflect this light making it easier to see with my naked eye with the coarser grits. As I get down to the finer grits, I use the 10x lightd loupe but that gets even harder to use when lighted once the edges are mirrored as it reflects the light back like a mirror would.

Yes I tried a $99 scope off Amazon for a few weeks. It was not of a $99 build quality IMO so I returned it for this one which works great and a bargain for $34.95. I don’t use the stand as I just run the scope along the blade when I want a closer look. Using the scope might even save one from slicing off the end of your nose when using a lo…[Read more]
