The point I was trying to makes is if you are working on anything other than maybe a granite counter top that can not shake or move, you have to be careful not to lean on, bump or shake the table you ware working on.. I have done this and it will mess up your Zero. Not saying you did it just mentioning it for the betterment of anyone reading i…[Read more]

Regardless of the type of cube you use, the table you place your gear on is also important..
Zeroing your cube while leaning on a table that is not rock solid will show you a non zero when not leaning on the table.. You would be very surprised at the change that can take place on a seemingly stable surface.

Hi Lee, not sure what all you got with your system but my upgraded were longer rods and the angle cube. If you do only folders the long rods are probably not that important but long or tall kitchen knives the make things a little nicer.

airscapes replied to the topic Using an ultrasonic cleaner clean stones in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 3 years, 10 months ago
The plates are attached with Foam mounting tape.. Not sure if what you are cleaning them with could cause the adhesive to fail but if just soap and water which is the suggested manner of cleaning provided by WE you are probably ok.

I only do the few kitchen knives my wife uses, but recently I have stopped trying to do the entire knife in one vice position. I do most of the straight part into the curve all the way to the end then reposition so the end I have not done is in the center of the vice as level as possible then fish that up blending the 2 areas. This is of c…[Read more]

airscapes replied to the topic YouTube video shows drawing a burr on both sides between each stone in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 3 years, 10 months ago
I zero on the blue part of the base in front of the handle, I normally remove the handle once the clamp is set.

If you check and adjust if needed your angle with every grit change, then raising a bur on each side take only one light scrubbing pass on each side. I normally use a few scrubbing passes before the edge leading storks to remove previous scratches until I get to 800 then just enough to get a bur then edge leading..

I have a chainmail glove, still in the package… unfortunately you must touch your bevel often to know where you are in the process..

airscapes replied to the topic Is Stropping the same as using lapping? in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 3 years, 10 months ago
No, lapping film is used like a stone but with edge trailing stokes so you don’t cut the film. You will want to check your angle with the cube as the glass plate may be a little thinner and angle adjustment may be required to be the same as the last stone.

Unfortunately this forum has been rather broken for quite some time. I think upgrades went bad and there is no full time Webmaster to fix code issues.

airscapes replied to the topic NOOB needs help…please in the forum Welcome Mat 3 years, 10 months ago
I went the upgrade path.. thought the 120 would be good enough.. to do it again would go with the 130. The pro is not going to make your EDC and kitchen knives any sharper than the 130.. One thing that does not come stock (as far as I know) is the longer rods.. they can be added at anytime but my stock rods are on a shelf never to be used…[Read more]

They are your knives, do with them what you like. Most folks will either use the manufacture angle, or after practical use and data collections of how long they hold an edge, come up with what works for them. 15-22 is the range for most kitchen knives I own depending on the steel, usage and blade type. Why you would need to sharpen all of you…[Read more]

airscapes replied to the topic Strop Covers (fit Old and New Handles) in the forum Want to Sell 3 years, 11 months ago
Not sure about the Gen 3 shelf as I do not have one. The covers were designed to cover strops so they don’t bump each other and cross contaminate grits. Some guys like to cover diamon stones but it is totally unnecessary same for ceramic. There is a different cover designed for the water stones to keep them clean in a dirty shop env…[Read more]
