How do you get 7 sets of stones in a Plano 3700 series Prolatch Stowaway box? Do you have a pic by chance ?
Thanks

Any opinions of polymer erasers? I use a Pentel polymer eraser and—at least visually—it seems to do a good job cleaning my stones. Thanks

Hi Kyle, wow. Impressive. I would like to learn how you do that to see if I could get even remotely close to those times for blades that don’t require reprofiling. Would you mind sending me a PM with some pointers? Or post pointers here if others are interested too.

tcmeyer, which camera do you use and at what magnification? Sounds like you get a lot of value out of it, which I would like to try to replicate. Thank you

tcmeyer, was wondering what your opinion is of using the 50/80 stones as the first set of stones when you want to completely redo bevels or when your apex is quite dull. Thank you

Hi Marc, thank you for your thoughtful response. I recently bought those same shields and mostly use them. I’ll take using them always more seriously, though.
BTW, at this link they tested a bunch of cut resistant gloves. I thought others may want this info too. I also learned a fair bit about ANSI cut resistance levels (A1 through A9); also interesting.

Several weeks ago I saw a video of Clay sharpening a knife using leading edge strokes. I saw him do the same in a video of a tradeshow where he was demo’ing a WE to someone. Doing some more searching, I discovered multiple forum posts from 2013, 2016 and 2020 that discussed the merits of using leading edge strokes. Clay had also posted several…[Read more]

Hi Ed,
For $50 that seems like a pretty good deal. I’ll go ahead and get one too because I don’t travel with my gear. It does look a little fragile but I do like that the light stays on and the price for what you get seems fair. Thanks for letting me know. Much appreciated.

Rodger started the topic Cheap way to add magnets to both sides of your angle cube in the forum MODS 3 years, 11 months ago
Most inexpensive angle cubes only have a magnet at the bottom, as does mine. I find that annoying so came up with a hack’ish fix. Bought several of these neodynium magnets for $7 and stuck one on each side of my angle cube with the included double-sided tape. Seems to work perfectly (at least so far). These magnets are just strong enough to keep…[Read more]

Hi 000Robert, by handles I mean the L-screw. I think of them as small handles I use to fasten the mini-L bracket to the angle bar; I guess I should be thinking of it as a screw and not a handle 🙂

Hi rummels, can you please tell me what type of nylon washers you use. As I’m waiting on my SS mod kit to arrive and I may want to use your tip. Thank you

Yes, got the SS adjusters and handles, the stops and the hand guards. Should be good. Thanks again.

Hi again MarcH. I think I might go for the Klein. It’s around $30, is (at least) a U.S. brand and probably is “good enough.” The DXL360 looks like it has too many bells and whistles. Plus, you’re right, I’m OK with driving 35 vs 35.00 🙂

Just found 2 oz 10 ct diamond sprays made by Richmond (?) for $16.95 per bottle. Thought I’d pass it along in case you’re interested. I don’t know anything about the Richmond company; does anyone?

Looking at the Hobbigoni, which I’m sure is a great unit, but out the door to the USA looks to be about $180. This other one, I’m sure, is more cheaply built but seems to fit the bill and is “only” $50. Hence me wondering if it would be “good enough” for me to figure out knives’ angles before I sharpen them. Am curious what you think once you get…[Read more]
