Hi SHVentus. I can’t remember ever trying to call Wicked Edge. I usually contact them by email, and I always get a pretty quick response.

Except for things that I buy from WE forum members, I only buy Wicked Edge stones and accessories. I’m very happy with them and ‘cheaper’ has never been an issue with me. I learned a long time ago not to chase cheaper. It was almost always a waste of money, and I regretted it. I’m very surprised that Clay has been able to keep the prices down as…[Read more]

Hello Gordon and welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum! I agree with what Marc said. I would also add that your lifestyle may play a big part in your decision. Do you hunt and camp a lot? If so, you may opt for the WE66. The WE60 is a fine sharpener in its own right. I have a WE130 myself and don’t have any experience with the Gen 3. But I’m sure…[Read more]

Hi Jim. The holes on the V2 jaws corresponds with the top holes on the V1 jaws. The resting ledge in the bottom of the V2 jaws corresponds to the bottom holes of the V1 jaws

Hi Chris. Don’t even worry about the engraved numbers. As Marc said, they are just used as a quick guide to get you around the angle that you want, and then you use the angle cube to get the exact angle. Worrying about matching them up to the angle cube readings is just a waste of time and don’t even matter. But it’s your time if you really want…[Read more]

Welcome to the forum, Chris! Marc is correct, as usual. I would also add that you can use some Emory cloth or stones to sand the tips and sides of screws and lock washers and stuff to help keep them from working loose. It’s just something that I do automatically when I buy stuff because I have worked in machine shops during my life. That is…[Read more]

000Robert replied to the topic Any tips on sharpening a Sandrin tungsten carbide blade in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 4 months ago
I guess it boils down to what you call a chip. The edge of a razor blade will probably look chipped if you magnify it enough.

Hmm, I don’t know, maybe my problem was mixing them up? I was mainly using edge-leading strokes to knock off burrs. And they would dull my edges. I stopped using them and the problem went away. I also consider edge-trailing strokes to be safer. I sharpen a lot slower than a lot of people I see in videos as well. Slapping the stones to the blade…[Read more]

Hi Glenn. I’m curious to know if you were using edge-leading strokes. I noticed something similar a couple of years ago with a blade. I stopped using edge-leading strokes, except for the up/down strokes, and haven’t had any problems since. Maybe it’s just the way I hold and use the stones, I’m not sure, but edge-trailing strokes just work better for me.

The Bess tester just takes practice time to get used to it. And you have to be careful. But it is not needed really. I decided to keep mine though. If an edge can whittle hairs, it sounds pretty good to me. I have more confidence in my homemade strap holder that I use for my HD 2″ Poly and Nylon webbing straps. If a blade edge can cut the strap…[Read more]

Hi Klaus. I check for a burr after sharpening each edge bevel with up/down strokes. Then I use 20 to 40 edge-trailing strokes before I move to the next grit. Put you will have better results after your stones are broken in well as Mike and Lawdog said.
I also wash my stones with dishwashing liquid and a scrub brush after every 4 or 5 knives. I…[Read more]

000Robert replied to the topic Cobratec OTF in the forum Main Forum 6 months, 2 weeks ago
You’re welcome. Yeah, they do look similar. You can use some thick clear plastic to put your OTF inside of when you take it apart to make sure a spring doesn’t fly into never, never land. I use some thick plastic bags that I bought to keep my old concert T-shirts in. They have saved me a lot of aggravation!

Hi drdk, I have no experience with Cobratec but I remember hearing that they are made in China and assembled in the USA, but I could be wrong. If they are made in China then the D2 may not really be D2. But it may still be decent steel. I would reprofile the blade to 20dps. You can use the sharpie and find out what the real edge bevels are – I’m…[Read more]

I haven’t noticed any ‘lean’ on my fixed vise WE60. I haven’t taken the time to check for it either. I just use the sharpie and set each side to the angle that I want and don’t worry about it. And my edge bevels look perfect. I also like my fixed side of the vise to be on the left side.

I think you are overreacting. I’m not the authority on sharpening, but I do try to listen to the experts.
