Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum Paxman.
I like to use a small rectangular patch of real leather chamois cloth. I bought a chamois cloth from the Walmart auto aisle probably 6 or more years ago. The leather chamois is used to dry cars after washing them. I’ve been cutting on this same cloth and still have like half of it left.
I wrap the dr…[Read more]

Hold off on ordering whetstones, just yet. I’m in the middle of doing a whetstone study. It’s a comparison of six different series stones, four brands. I’m 5/6 the way through the different sets, for my first go round. I’m trying to objectively compare my user experiences to decide how I like each stone set and which I like best. I want…[Read more]

I have not used the nano cloth strops. I generally just use the 4µ/2µ pair on leather. These days I sharpen my knives to use them. The fine polish you seek is not needed for my purposes.
I did chased the perfect mirror polish bevels when I first started with W.E. I learned how elusive it was. When working at sub-µ abrasive levels it’s ve…[Read more]

Welcome to the W.E. Forum Brett C.
See the last line above the red “NOTE”: While Kangaroo and Cow leathers can be used either unloaded or loaded with abrasive compounds, the Jende Nanocloth Ultra is meant to be used with the Jende Poly Diamond and CBN sprays and emulsions.
The Jende Nanocloth paddles for Wicked Edge are simply color-coded nano…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum Don. There aren’t any regular forum participants that I can think of that are Commercial Series users.
Which model hard case is best for that model may be a question easily answered by W.E. customer service. I’d give them a call or submit a ticket.

I’d attach the third photo to the ticket. The visual proof will show them there is indeed a production issue for this plate.
Do you have any other fine grit plates? Like the 3000 grit? Are you seeing this concavity across all your fine grit stones; each and everyone of them; (1500, 2200, 3000)?

Welcome to the W.E. forum and W.E. sharpener’s community, Kevinchau270.
Sometimes there are problems seen in the diamond stones. We do see plating issues or maybe an agglomeration of diamond abrasive causing a high rough spot on the plates. The higher grit stones with their smaller abrasive size and thinner plating may be thinner and more wo…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic need help setting up 10" breaking knife in the forum Tips for Specific Knife Grinds and Styles 2 years, 10 months ago
Welcome to the W.E. forum, Randy.
That pictured Forshner knife, I would clamp it high up in the jaws. Center the knife’s length, forward and aft. With it’s length centered, slightly rotate the handle down and the tip up. I do this to try to even out the arched shape of the cutting edge so it lays centered for the most part, across the vise.

I agree with Tom, replacement is the best way to go to be assured of the results. If not replaced, you’ll never be confident in the results you’ll see.

I did a little internet searching some time back and saw there are some sources for tanned Kangaroo hide. I never got further than that.
The nano is an interesting alternative because it can be rinsed out when dirty.

The recommendation to reduce the angle setting by 2º is based on the compressibility of the cow leather. The intent is to help new strop users to not round over their sharpened edges while getting the hang of the stropping technique. The softer, thicker, more compressible cow leather can wrap down around the apex with the edge trailing str…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic About to attempt my first sharpening and have a few questions in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 2 years, 10 months ago
Believe it not, I do it the same way. I don’t care much if my bevel heights across a sharpened edge change. Keeness, sharp edges and repeatability for future touchups are all that really matter to me for my practical purposes.
