That’s pretty much the way the knowledge base helps say to do it rather than grinding your blade with a coarse stone not knowing where it is going to grind your blade at. I would rather put a gentle scratch on my edge while removing the sharpie ink to find the right angle than gouging a 100 grit scratch across it.
The hobbygoni is a quick and…[Read more]

Oh, ok. I can’t wait till I get one of those. They have a cheaper one on Amazon but I would rather save the money and get a good one.

That’s the point, you always need it even after the stones are broken in. Just like you can’t see all of the tiny droplets that spread in a cloud when someone sneezes, you can’t see all of the microscopic dust and particles that are floating in the air while grinding steel.
I meant after you apply the sharpie the first time and you’re checking…[Read more]

I thought that we were not supposed to check angles with a coarse stone? And I advise you guys to wear a N95 mask when you are sharpening knives with any system. It is the particles and dust that you do not see, that you breathe in…IMHO

That’s great! I am glad that you have a decent microscope. That should help you out a lot.

IMHO, It looks like an asymmetrical grind to me. If you keep the stone at the same angle you can sharpen till the cows come home and not get the look like in the photo. You’ll just cut the whole bevel down lower including the edge. To get the more acute angle of the one side of the bevel, you have to use a more acute angle on that side than you…[Read more]

I guess that will work. I don’t need wide jaws for myself but there might be a bunch of fishermen that would like them.

You don’t leave your WE out and ready to go all the time? IMHO, the first new thing that they should make is wide jaws for thin knives, like fillet knives for instance.

Thanks, Clay! Yall did a great job. If a knife seems to fit too tight in the jaws, I’ll just use the 1/4″ jaws.

Yeah, I figured that the washers provided the tension. The knife (first knife) that I am sharpening right now is 0.094″ at the spine. The lock closed good and snug but it didn’t seem to be too tight. I’ll keep an eye on it.
Man, I love this WE130! It is awesome! They must have did some tweaking to it because I haven’t had any of the problems that…[Read more] -

Hello guys. My WE130 just made it home today! Is the washer stack right? It has 6 sets of washers, and the photo in the Wicked Edge clamp disassembly/cleaning shows a washer stack with only 5 stacks of washers. I am wondering if there is a mistake.

WE is number 1! I’m sure that one of the less expensive models would have won also. Maybe he chose the $900 WE model so he could feel better about choosing the Lansky?

Thanks, tcmeyer! Yep, I have been studying a lot here to get a jump on sharpening for when my WE130 gets here! I forgot that the finger guards did not come standard and didn’t order any, so I’ll take it extra slow. I wouldn’t be in a hurry much anyway.
