Marc H replied to the topic Adding base to the WE130 in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 5 years, 9 months ago
RJ, you can do this two ways. You can order and pay for the blue base that’s standard with the WE130. Then you’ll remove the wide black portable base option, swap the square bar over to the blue base then re-secure your WE130 Vise to the blue base. The blue base will attach and screw in place, to the pre-drilled holes on the Wicked Edge Al…[Read more]

There’s no special treatment. Just give time, time. They’ll take on average 10 or more knives to start to come around. I have this same, as you call it, “blended family dynamic”. I thought I had the new stones broken in, but they still don’t give the smoother more consistent results of the older stones. Especially the coarser grits that…[Read more]

For the new users with limited experience, with a W.E sharpener or knife sharpening, in general, drawing a burr is the quickest, simplest and most reliable method to determine your work is reaching the knife edge, (i.e., apexing the edge), without having and using other helpful tools. Once you gain some experience and employ alternate monitoring…[Read more]

Wouldn’t the sound produced by each grit used, on the same knife and the same angle differ, also? Would you need a standardized or control sound signature record to compare against? Wouldn’t this signature differ even with the same knife and the same angle if clamped slightly differently, each time. It think the steel would resonate di…[Read more]

Steven, what is you’re end goal? Sharp or polished?
The 1500 grit is a great diamond stone. The results are a very fine and even scratch pattern resulting in that extra fine edge both in sharpness and shine. It’s both a good ending point for the other grits in the diamond stone progression and a good starting point for the Diamond lapping fi…[Read more]

Consistency in particle size and scratch pattern is very important to me. I do not want stray deep or large scratches, if avoidable.

Clay is there any plan to repair or replace the Forum Search function, particularly the Advanced Search Feature?

The CK Knives video relates several inaccuracies. The stones he is unpacking, that he just purchased from Oldawan are the same price stone for stone, grit for grit, at WIcked Edge, USA. Bob @ Oldawan does ship free, included in the price. W.E. ships free with a min. $100 purchase. There are some resellers on eBay and Amazon selling WE produ…[Read more]

I am still using original stones from over 5 years ago. I have no knife count on them, but it’s in the hundreds. I can say the finer grit stones will wear faster then the coarser stones, especially if they are used when a lower grit, more abrasive stone, would have been better suited for the job. If I find after a few minutes of effort that th…[Read more]

I recently bought two WE130 Portables. I also own two earlier models: WE130 upgraded from Pro Pack II, and a Gen 3 Pro. The new WE130’s did not include the lock nuts on the guide rods. The lock nuts really are unnecessary. If the rods were to come loose it doesn’t effect the angle because it is still in-line. The loss of the nut allows for…[Read more]

I have used the tape intending it for both of those purposes. To protect the steel from accidental scratches and to keep the steel dust out of the inner workings; the hinge and locking mechanism. Whether it’s helpful and effective for those purposes, or not, I will continue to use it, because I feel better knowing it’s there.

Tom, what you never meant to suggest is in essence what I suggested in the original post that began this thread. For someone to mine the older threads, than today, for relevance to a technical issue. That someone was Forum members and participants; new and old. It seems we do agree in the value of reading old threads! That’s what we Foru…[Read more]

Tom, I like your idea and thinking but turn it around. The Forum can reference or link the “Knowledge Base”, but the “Knowledge Base” cannot reference or link the Forum. The Forum is autonomous. A Forum by it’s nature is self driven by it’s members, participants and contributors. It is a place where participants can share their knowledge and…[Read more]
