I believe the premise of a Forum is to be able to read a thread, and old threads of past discussions. Otherwise this would be a “chat room”.
Tom I see your point and can’t argue it. I haven’t read a book in years. I only read to find answers to questions. I do believe those of us who really want to get into this sharpening stuff and gain a ful…[Read more]

After giving it some thought: maybe close the knife on a folded strip or piece of paper inserted down into the blade slot and feel for resistance when the knife is folded closed. If the paper slides or slips under the point then I’d guess it doesn’t rest on it. You also should be able to ball up a really small wad of paper and shove it down in…[Read more]

Organic, do you know a way of determining if the tip does indeed effect the knife closing.

NorCalQ, I have not done one myself. I have learned through forum participation that there are several different methods others have employed to work around that knife configuration.
One, tcmeyer has just suggested, to employ a different or modified stone stroke in close proximity to the “kick” to allow you to blend that less or differently…[Read more]

First we introduce ourselves as a new Wicked Edge owner/user on this Wicked Edge Forum. Then we participate by asking questions. Later, hopefully, searching and reading, on our own, to gain more experience and to expand our knowledge. Then, maybe later, we share our experiences and post with pride the fruits of our labor. That’s when…[Read more]

NorCalQ, I want to point out to you that your results shown in the picture exemplify how truly polished and mirror appearing a bevel can be attained with a relatively basic progression and not a terrible amount of effort once you learn your technique and put it to practice. I truly believe excellent results are mostly about: good technique,…[Read more]

Knife sharpeners have been finely sharpening knives with all kinds of mediums, by free hand, for ever. Back to a rock. After using the Wicked Edge with it’s fixed angle precision, I think we over emphasize the need for perfectly smooth and flat sharpening mediums and sometimes blame these imperfections for our results. We are not using da…[Read more]

I believe the “true V Bevel” you like and see is the results of your entire efforts of good technique, time and attention to details, not any one step in general. It’s not until you reach the culmination, while using the lapping films, do you see the true fruits of your labor. Enjoy the reward.

I believe some people want to try use every grit and every medium they own trying to figure out how to put them in an order of logical decreasing coarseness based on a grit table. Different mediums have different characteristics and they all don’t work well together. (Sometimes you have to choose one or the other. This is where experience co…[Read more]

“Duke”, Wicked Edge has combined the Field and Sport Pro under the WE130. It is the same sharpener sold with the elevated wide mounting platform as it’s option. It’s listed as the “Portable” option. Click the orange button “shop now” and it brings up all the base and mount options.
They have done the same thing with the WE120 combining the “p…[Read more]

Steve sounds like you’re on the right track. The stones will yield better results as they continue to break in. Concentrate on your technique and consistency in your strokes. I think you’ll see improvement and results you’re wanting. It usually takes a good 8 or 10 knives worth sharpening to break in the stones and get through the learning cur…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Best way to get a tip pointier? in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years, 10 months ago
To make a tip pointier requires removing steel and profiling the knife shape to be longer and thinner. You already removed the thinner elongated point steel when you repaired the damaged tip.
On top of this the 15º per side bevel is a taller thinner elongated bevel as compared to the 18º per side you want to reprofile the bevels to. You are rea…[Read more]

Use your knives and enjoy them. This Goo Gone does a great job removing adhesive residue. For the worse cases I apply it with a Q-tip or applicator stick, sometimes two or three applications. I let it sit and soak into the glue residue in-between applications. The sticky residue usually wipes right off.
I’ve applied it to paper sticker lab…[Read more]

Nice job on the dust cover boots.
I use nylon knurled knob thumb screws 3/8″ X 10-32 I sourced from Grainger to lock my micro-angle adjustments in an opposing clamping fashion. The nylon holds tight and doesn’t bugger the threads. This locking method applies to the older, pre-2017 versions of the WE 120 & WE130. Now the new versions, 2017 an…[Read more]
