Alan replied to the topic WE 130 Degree markings off considerably in the forum Main Forum 4 years, 7 months ago
Is your blade edge 5/8″ above the clamp? This is an ongoing concern/question. Every knife is different. The degree markings are only accurate for knives mounted 5/8″ above the clamp. Most of us just use the degree markings as a general guide to set things up for a sharpening session. Your angle cube is your most important tool.

Alan replied to the topic Do I need to purchase long guide rod arms? in the forum Main Forum 4 years, 11 months ago
I have the Gen 3 Pro and purchased the 10″ guide rods as (to me) a necessity. Personally I think the 8″ rods it comes with are too short. It should come standard with the 10″ rods.

Wow. Haven’t seen that video in a long time, almost forgot that I made it! I just us a drop of regular dish soap with some water. I still do this and it works really well to keep the dust down and things clean. BTW, I received my Gen 3 Pro I think 5 years ago (not sure actually) and still using it today.. love it!

Hi Saskboy,
The truth is, for kitchen knives you can actually stop with the 800 or even 600 stones. This leaves very small jagged or serrated edge which is great for kitchen knives.
I just purchased the 1500/2200 stones and like them a lot! But I don’t use them on kitchen knives, instead I use them on knives that I intend to have a finely p…[Read more]

Alan replied to the topic Using 50/80 stones in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years, 3 months ago
I have these stones and yes they are aggressive; that is their purpose. I don’t use them often, but love that they are at my disposal when I need them, which is most always to reprofile a knife.

Hello fellow sharpeners. My family and friends have enjoyed sharp knives (mostly kitchen, but also pocket) since my purchase in 1997 of the WE Gen3 Pro. I absolutely love this sharpener and will keep it forever!
I sharpen to 1000 grit diamond, and then use WE diamond film (6 and 3) for extra sharpness and a beautiful polish. I have WE strops but…[Read more]

Alan replied to the topic Stone / Strop protective covers in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 6 years, 3 months ago
Hey Marc. I just checked for that. Yes, there is some space between the stone or strop and cover, so as not to make contact with the surface. They also fit quite snugly, and add some thickness. I do like them. A picture says a thousand words…

Hey guys. I ordered a set of these with my most recent WE order. Just one set so I could see what they were like and also the quality. I must say, for what they are, they are great! They are not flimsy plastic, but rather firm. Pretty sure they’ll last forever. I think they’re worth the money and are a great solution for protecting my stone…[Read more]

Pretty sure I understand your question. A half inch difference between the micro adjustment nuts for any give angle setting on the plate seems like a lot to me.
I remember when I removed the blue plate (to install the WE 3001 vice) on my unit, the movement of the arms were controlled by their connection to the angle adjustment…[Read more]

Hey guys. I found this on the WE website. I’d be interested to buy them for my strops and stones. Any info on these? I did a search but didn’t find anything.

Welcome back! I’ve a pre-2017 WE Gen 3 pro (and 2017 model F&S Pro used when travelling) which I’ve upgraded with the newer vice as well as 10″ guide rods. I removed the shelves early on to bring it down to a more comfortable working height, and just love it. No longer do I use it in a sharpening business, but frequently use it for my own k…[Read more]
