    Hello fellow sharpeners. My family and friends have enjoyed sharp knives (mostly kitchen, but also pocket) since my purchase in 1997 of the WE Gen3 Pro. I absolutely love this sharpener and will keep it forever!

    I sharpen to 1000 grit diamond, and then use WE diamond film (6 and 3) for extra sharpness and a beautiful polish. I have WE strops but don’t use them much.

    I’m thinking of adding a new diamond stone. After 1000, what do you all think? Maybe too early to ask? Should I jump to 2200/3000 or keep it more gradual at 1500/2200? I know from reading here that the 1500 stone is proven. Thank you all very kindly.

    I don’t think those new stones are needed for what you are doing.  I do the same with the  addition of the 1500, DF 6 then Strop and am actually thinking of stopping at 1500 for most of the kitchen knives to provide a little more tooth.  That said, I think you would really like the 1500 added to your progression.

    Alan, some knife sharpeners feel anything past 600 or 800 grit is unnecessary.   I believe the intentions of these new fine grit diamond stones are to be a non-consumable option for the consumable fine grit diamond lapping films we’re now using.  I have my new sets on order that I look forward to putting to use.  From what little I’ve read about them and my experience with the 1500 grit diamond stones, I’ve been using a while now, I believe you’ll get the best of both worlds.  That is a very refined sharp edge with some fine toothiness also.
