It all depends on how damaged the blade is. I have found having and inexpensive USB microscope goes a long way to properly evaluate the condition of the blade. You would want to start with the highest grit that will get the job done in a reasonable period of time. Having the scope let you see your progress. If you are not getting anywhere, dro…[Read more]

Answers to all your questions are on this forum so take the time to find them. However you sound like myself a year ago so here is my personal take on what I bought and “should have bought”. My use is to keep my wife happy and she has about 4 knives that she uses.. I could have saved a lot of money taking them to the sharpening shop and spen…[Read more]

Since I make and sell a couple of custom accessories and I am friends with other members who do the same, I thought I would post a list of items and links to the appropriate posts that describe the products so new users could find all the offerings that are currently available.
This is probably not a complete list, just what I know of at the…[Read more]

Chris, I am going to make a new post called Forum test post, it will initially be text only and I assume it will not vanish. Next I will edit it and add more text only and if it is still there, edit it again and add a forum link by just pasting in a url to another post. If that works I will add the same url with the LINK button and continue u…[Read more]

MarchH asked me to design Strop covers with a specific set of requirements and this is what I came up with. They will be sold for $3 each + $5 shipping.
A single set of Strop Cover consists of 4 cover as each strop has 2 sides. You can order as many or as few as you want but a single “Set” would be a total of $17 shipped.
If you order in bu…[Read more]

send it back and get the 130. only issue with the 120 is that due to the way the standard vise works the knife is going to tilt to one side causing 2 different angles..

Since this list needs a bump, I figured I would let you all know Marc and I are working on Strop Covers that will fit both new and old handles as well as the glass paddles for lapping film. Still in the prototype phase but will be shipping some to Marc for testing on Monday. Stay tuned!

Terry, I would just use the stops at the bottom with the shorter rods. You will just have to keep control of the upward motion so the bottom of the stone does not move above the bevel. You want to use as much of the stone as possible so it breaks completely so don’t use the stop as you have it picture at the end of the short rod.
Hope that m…[Read more]

airscapes replied to the topic Stropping angle? in the forum Stropping 4 years, 11 months ago
Like most things WE personal preference comes into play. I have not gotten really good at stopping so tend to not do to much, just enough to round over and polish the area at the bottom of the bevel as I have a similar problem of round the edge.
To answer your question, I if the main bevel is 17 then I strop at 15.5 and try and use light p…[Read more]

One last piece of ammunition for that talk with the wife, if you go all in and 4 months later find out you made a mistakable, you can sell it and get most of your money back.. Take a look, you won’t find a WE for sale used other than on this forum when someone upgrades. 🙂
