Actually, I wish the Gen 3 Pro would go wider. Asymmetrical grinds have a very wide single sided bevel and even for an Emerson CQC 7, at the bottom setting, you have to end up going back to your Gen 2 at 35 degrees.
Anyone have thoughts how to use the Gen 3 pro for this?

I use alcohol spray to clean the diamond stones and lapping films. Gets most of the stuff off.

Actually, I saw your video after I did it, but that method made sense and the speed to do it on the Gen 3 is much better than the Gen 2. Worked just fine.
Been working on that CQC7 for my friend again as he had major chips in the edge, so had to file that down, then apex the edge again, but instead of taking the primary bevels to close to a…[Read more]

I had the 2200/3000 stones and sold them in favor of keeping my 1500/2200 stones and using DLFs 6 and 3 micron instead. I am happy with the decision.

Marc, how would you suggest to remove the burr on the flat side without creating a burr on the bevel side?

Forgot to mention the CQC7 was half serrated on the trailing bevel so I just sharpened the serration tips that matched the flat edge and didn’t touch the other parts of the serration given my friend doesn’t doesn’t the serrated edge much. Likely, that part of the edge where I didn’t hit it is still factory sharp.

Pat replied to the topic Getting DLFs! in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years ago
Been using the DLFs and man, they do a great job as everyone has indicated. Following them with strops allows me to tree top hair (assuming I have a low enought dps like 15 or less) with a Spyderco PM. Thanks for all the help folks!

Curious whether you checked if it would whittle hair before you took those last couple photos. I bet it would….you are much more fastidious than I am and I can get hair whittling without too much fuss about it.
I agree with you on the more aggressive stones and that is why I purchased because once the 100s where down, they won’t cut like they…[Read more]

2 separate items:
- Put my first convex edge with WE Gen 3 Pro on a bushcraft Survive Knives 4.7. Man, that thing’s still very sharp even with a 25 dps micro bevel, convexed back to 20 dps (Gen 3 settings, not using angle cube).
- Took a friend’s Emerson CQC 7 Tanto (all chisel ground for tantos) and had to sharpen it (to keep factory bevel) o…

Finally getting some 6 and 3 micron DLFs today to try this weekend. Will report back if I like them as much as everyone else. I am seeking these over a pure ceramic approach post 1000 grit diamond stones.

I didn’t see whether Clay or Kyle had responded. Sounds like you maybe should send it in or get their thoughts. You could send them a reference to this forum post to their service email, if you don’t think you have resolved the issue.

Pat replied to the topic Question on strop microns vs ceramic microns in the forum Advanced Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years, 1 month ago
Thanks Clay. Can you tell me what advantage ceramics have in the grit progression? I don’t see you or Kyle us them often in demos, unless I have missed it. Folks seem to be leaning toward DLFs and not sure if that is because it really is an advancement in technology making the ceramics antiquated.
