Hello and welcome, I don’t know what stones and mediums you posses but I like emulsions over the pastes or the sprays. The pastes work well but the emulsions perform better and last longer for me. I like kangaroo leather strops but leather works very well.
Your progression, or order, is up to you and what you find acceptable. The term acceptable…[Read more]

I’ve had some experience with Victorinox knives and their fibrox line of kitchen knives are the best bang for the buck, in my opinion. They perform as good as anything I’ve experienced at the point in time. They hold an edge well and are fun to use, just not flashy!

If you are worried about your machine not being up to standards then I think a call to the WE team might be your best bet at this point.

I really think with the benchmade you can clamp that closer to the tip and bury the back of the blade as deep as you can to level the edge a bit. You should have plenty of room to sharpen at 22 degs.
Did you hit the clamp with the stones on one side and not the other after measuring 22 degs. with the angle cube?

If horizontal strokes are capable of “scratch-free” bevels then the problem with a more vertical stroke has to be picking up either debris or new metal or coating from the bottom of the bevel or the cutting edge? Ideas as to why this would be the case?

OK now we’re cooking with gas! Some knives, like Benchmades, have unusual grinds that can make them difficult to clamp straight and some of them just won’t. You have to use chamois or moleskin or something like that so you can grip the blade with a very small area. If you simply can’t get the knife to set perfectly vertical then you have to adjust…[Read more]

If you are hitting the low angle adapter at 22 degs. then you have the knife clamped to far toward the tip and/or to low in the low angle adapter. I have to ask how you are measuring your angles though. More details of exactly what your method of clamping a knife is would help us help you.

Doing some of the kitchen knives you do Organic, I think the addition of the 130 would make you a happy camper! LOL… Seriously I love it and have never doubted that I bought the right system and package for me.

Welcome from Lower Michigan Jeremy!
Your choice of sharpeners for what you will be using it for was perfect in my opinion. I’ve bought the pp3 a little over a year now and absolutely believe it’s the most complete package and most versatile of the sharpeners. You will love it!

sksharp replied to the topic Micro bevel, looses edge in the forum Advanced Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 9 months ago
Hey Phil, micro bevels are difficult with new stones. The roughness of new diamonds makes it difficult to refine the edge with just a few strokes. The diamond stones do start to break in at 10 or so knives, but wait until you have had 100 or so on them. The difference in what you can achieve with fully broken in stones is amazing.
I do most of…[Read more]

Is a totally scratch free surface possible? Or, is the trick to make the scratches so small that they are not apparent or invisible to the naked eye? Wouldn’t that take a lot of time, effort and skill?

How long before the WE stones break in? Can I expect scratch free bevels after only a few knives?

Here is the deal with convex edges and why most manufacturers say a convex edge is better. At least in my mind.
They can tell you that they sharpened the blade at 20 deg., and that is where they set the machine to sharpen it, but when you intentionally sharpen for a convex edge you do it on a slack belt sander. That rounds the bevel and depending…[Read more]

Welcome Gene, I agree an angle cube is a must. Being able to measure the angle is a real advantage. A Low Angle Adapter is required equipment for me as well.

You might be able to press that back in but I would get a hold of WE and they will get you a new one.
If you noticed a change I’d say that is when the defect manifested and the knives you did before will be all right. When you get the new part then check a couple and make sure but if you didn’t notice anything when you sharpened them I would have…[Read more]
