I thought I’d post another update. I used the chef knife to cube some chicken breast for the sweet and sour chicken that I made last night and the cutting performance was markedly better than I have previously experienced with the same knife sharpened up to 1500 grit with and then stropped with the 4 / 2 micron strop set. Now that leaves me…[Read more]

The gen. 3 is a great setup and you’ll be very happy with it when it arrives.

I’ve had mine for about 3 years now. I also purchased it based on the glowing America’s Test Kitchen reviews. I have found that the edge retention is okay, but not great. It is absolutely better than the edge retention on my el cheapo Farberware knives with Chinese mystery steel, but not even in the same ballpark as my Kanehiro aogami super…[Read more]

I have an update: I sharpened my trusty 8″ Victorinox chef knife today and used the following progression at 20 degrees per side: 400#, 600#, 800#, 1000#, 1500#, 1.4 micron ceramic, 0.6 micron ceramic, 14 micron diamond paste on cow leather strop, 10 micron diamond paste on cow leather, 4 micron diamond emulsion on cow leather, 2 micron diamond…[Read more]

I’m also interested in this question. I recently acquired two additional sets of strops so that I now have the 14 / 10, 4 / 2, and 1 / 0.5 micron strops. I’ve only used them all on one knife so far (and it was a cheap one). The knife was sharp at the end of the stropping, but not as sharp as it was after the first set alone. I finished it with a…[Read more]

It all depends on what your aim is when sharpening a knife. You don’t have to spend hours working a blade if you only care about having a great working edge. That can be done in 10-15 minutes once you’re familiar with the system. If this is your approach then I think that you might be well suited by the GO model with a few extra stones and a set…[Read more]

I’m unaware of any discounts currently. On occasion Wicked Edge will place some items on discount (check the special offers section of the WE website), but I have never seen them do a special promotion or discount site-wide.
MarcH is totally right that the quality of the edge you get will be proportional to the time and attention to detail that…[Read more]

My pre-2017 gen. 3 pro came with the standard alignment guide. I have since ordered the advanced alignment guide and use that almost exclusively. The standard alignment guide is fine, but the advanced alignment guide is easily worth the extra $8 in my opinion.

Hi Taki, welcome to the forum!
I don’t know what the requirements for becoming a dealer are, but there is a link on the Wicked Edge website that is specifically for those interested in becoming dealers.

27% tax on imports sounds like a major drag.

I also never clean my diamond stones and they work well. I would avoid a metal brush because the substrate that the diamonds are mounted in is a soft metal. A toothbrush should be perfectly safe.

Welcome to the forum Edgy Guy! The hack that you’ve referenced only works for some knives. The best way to find the optimal clamping position is discussed in the WE knowledge base (see page 19 of the manual in the link) as well as Marc’s recent post on how to find the sweet spot.

The standard 8 inch rods do fine out until about 8 inch blades and then you find that you’re almost out of travel depending on how the blade is mounted. I have a set of 12 inch rods and they get used most often but I still go for the 8 inch rods for shorter knives. There is an old video of clay demonstrating that you can do a 17 inch machete w…[Read more]

You should check out this thread about modern super steels. I think you will find that other people have had similar experiences with them.

There are quite a few of us who purchased the small knife jig to use with the WE. It really comes in handy when the clamp isn’t working out. I’m glad you were able to get your issue resolved.
