I can’t speak with any experience about clamping that particular knife. It doesn’t look especially challenging. Any current W.E. model should be able to clamp it well. I the believe newest vise and jawset like on the new WE66, was desigbed for folder knives and those sharpening them. Especially for distally tapered and FFG knives.
Any W.E. model…[Read more]

Here’s how I do it, using RAM mount gadgets:

Tom I also posted to the FB Group. I can share more photos here. I was fortunate enough to end up with part of an unpursued project that I was testing. The concept is great. This (blue colored) “Outrigger” supports and stabilizes knives I have clamped in my modified WE130.
The rear orange cradle belts the handle in place. I can slide and…[Read more]

Welcome to the W.E. Forum Chuck. If you buy a package or setup from W.E. it comes with every needed to assembly then use it. If you didn’t get everything it’s an oversight. Contact them by submitting a ticket and they should promptly remedy it.

Marc H replied to the topic Thick blade mounting in the forum Main Forum 1 year, 7 months ago
This is where the “original” standard vise design is helpful. The standard vise can clamp these very thick knives.
Possibly if you have a low angle adapter you can exchange the standard included screws for longer screws to accommodate that thick knife. A Tormek Small Knife Holder may be another clamping option since it holds a knife by it’s handle.

I replied to Rob’s post, but apparently the OP was moved to a different Forum topic and my reply was lost in the transfer. Just in case, I’ll copy it here:

Using strops is certainly another way to do it and would probably do it a lot faster once you work out the progression. I’ve drifted away from strops because of their tendency to get cross-contaminated. Once a strop is contaminated, there’s almost no way to return it to its prior condition. Diamond stones and films can usually be cleaned to r…[Read more]

Another update. It appears that the cover image feature is accidentally blocked by a wordpress plugin that we use to prevent spam signups and spam activity. Meaning, it’s blocked for everyone, and not that any of us is trying to spam the forum. Because that anti-spam plugin is overall a really helpful thing, and because it may take a lot of…[Read more]

The team updated me this morning that they’re still trying to figure it out and fix it (we host the forum on WordPress, and our hosting company provides support on WordPress issues like this).

Thanks for letting us know about this, and sorry for delayed reply. The web developers are working to fix this, I’ll post an update once they do.

Just sent this “Rack-It” to new Forum member, BigBen. This one is a new version of an existing design. This revised design overcomes the aspects of the previous design that I didn’t find quite right. This 3 Tier 18 post Step Tiered “Rack-It” incorporates a covered plastic pull-out storage box.
Like my previous design this “Rack-It” incorporates…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Hairdresser & Barber Scissors? in the forum Sharpening as a Business 1 year, 9 months ago
To be clear…it’s not so much the W.E. as the skill or sharpening knowledge needed about how to properly sharpen these types of scissors; barber/hair shears. But for high end, real quality shears I read there are special trained and certified sharpeners. I have no clue if one of the experienced sharpener persons might be able to do it with a W.E.

Good expensive hair shears can have special convex or hollow ground edges. These require special sharpening techniques. I have a lot of experience using my WE130. I would not sharpen these hair shears. Basic straight flat household scissors are a much easier job. Many of these common scissors are easily done with a W.E. and the scissor adapter.

Welcome to the W.E. Forum Dave, for that situation I’d inspect the edge of the clamped knife under lighted magnification. I use a USB digital microscope. The scope would let me see the apex to determine if there is indeed a 16º micro-bevel or, if not, what I am dealing with.
I have applied a 16º micro-bevel on Shun knives with good results.

Marc H replied to the topic Widged Edge clamp – wrong angle! in the forum Main Forum 1 year, 9 months ago
Klaus,
For the WE120 in a Pro Pack 2 with the fixed vise side to the left, FG & FFG knives may clamp with a left lean. This is a well-known and documented issue.
I have no knowledge or experience with clamped knives leaning to the right with the standard vise models. Hopefully, a forum member with more experience may provide a…[Read more]

Klaus, which model are you using?
For the W.E. standard vise models this includes the WE100, WE120, and WE60. For these standard vise models, when setup in the normal orientation, the fixed or stationary side of the vise is positioned to the left side and the floating or moving side, is to the right. By design the standard vise may cause a flat…[Read more]
