Marc H replied to the topic Generation 3 Pro vs. Pro Pack III? in the forum Getting Started 5 years ago
Glenn there are many many knives out there. As I learned to sharpen knives well with my Wicked Edge I also broadened my interest in and desire for better and different knives. You may be surprised that many fine chef’s knives, (and some folding knives too) are asymmetrical beveled knives.
You may find if you start with the WE130 in the Pro P…[Read more]

Welcome to the W.E. Forum Glen. I own and use both the Gen 3 Pro and the WE130, in the Pro Pack Iii. I can sharpen a wider variety of knife sizes, shapes, styles, and configurations with my Pro Pack III. Both modl sharpeners use the same single lever handled, cam action, self centering, floating jaw, tension adjustable vise. The differ in the…[Read more]

I have used these two:
60X LED lighted Jeweler’s Loupe and Hand Microscope .
I found I have an aversion to placing my fingers and leaning my face up very close to an exposed sharpened knife edge.
I gave up using both of those for the USB Microscope. This allows me to sit safely back where I can see my hands and fingers holding the m-sco…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum and sharpening community JP.
The WE130 included with the PPIII is the most versatile model, IMO. I would consider the WE130 more versatile then the Gen 3 Pro or the Commercial Series. If you were intending to sharpen mainly convex profiled knife edges and not “V” profiled knife edges, the Gen 3 Pro excels in t…[Read more]

Suggestion: Blacking over the previous stone scuff accidents with a sharpie marker helps you recognize new boo boos.

Another suggestion, is there any paint abraded from the vise or jaws indicating the stone was contacting them befre it allowed to make full, flat contact on that heel portion of the bevel.
Also, I was hoping you had the thumb stud protected with tape, which was why it didn’t show damage.

Marc H replied to the topic Kershaw Cryo2 Uneven edge in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years ago
If I were to take a guess, it appears the thumb stud may be hindering your sharpening stone from sharpening down as low as it can sharpen forward, (i.e., towards the tip), of the thumb stud. Is it possible to remove the thumb stud to allow clear access to the knife bevel edge by the sharpening stones?

Recently there have been some posts disappearing, without explanation. I have discussed some theories with the effected forum members for the possible cause.
I have increased the frequency of forum observations looking for a similar situation to occur, again.
This morning I read all the most recent posts and responses. Shortly later, I n…[Read more]

Expidia, with the large knurled thumb wheel locking the micro-angle adjusters you no longer need to use the nylon opposing locking screws also. THe wheel holds tight by itself.

I suggest you google or search “sharpening choils” on You Tube. You may find the blade enhancement helpful on knives like the Spydercos

I just received these new Strop Cover prototypes from Doug. They are very nice and fit well. They slide on and off easily with enough height between the covers and the leather strop strips to prevent contact and cross contamination but still cover and protect the leather.
Each strop handle/paddle pair has 4 strips of leather for 2 different gr…[Read more]

Lay, just about any knife that can be clamped in a W.E. vise can be sharpened with the W.E. Sharpener. The question really is are the standard included W.E. diamond sharpening stones the best suited sharpening stones for that particular steel. These knives appear to be made of VG-10 steel hardened to HRc 61, what Shun regularly calls their “…[Read more]

I asked essentially this same question from another knife forum about 4 or 5 years ago. The immediate answers I got from them was, “it’s not real Damascus Steel!
I wasn’t asking if modern multi-layered damascus steel knives were made from ancient wootz steel with authentic methods like swords made in 13th century Persia. Simply, if Damascus S…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum Eric. If you purchased the Pro Pack 1, it comes with the WE100. The Pro Pack 2 includes the WE120.
Both the WE100 and the WE120 utilize the W.E. Standard Vice setup. The WE100 has 1/2° angle adjustment increments with no microfine angle adjustment feature. The WE120 has a wider overall angle range with 1/2°…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Leather Strop Maintenance in the forum Strops 5 years, 1 month ago
To the best of my knowledge, the strop compounds, sprays and emulsion are aqueous bases, (i.e. water based distribution vehicles).
I agree that oils like neatsfoot oil have been used to treat leather for years and years, to maintain suppleness. I don’t know that’s necessarily the best mix with the aqueous stropping compounds/vehicles.
I have f…[Read more]
