I personally just created a Google Business page and began getting hits immediately, they bugged the heck out of me for months wanting me to enhance it and spend money but I just kept ignoring them and the calls finally ceased. But my advice is to not bite off more than you can chew probably for the first year. Get really good at, for example,…[Read more]

Richard replied to the topic YouTube video shows drawing a burr on both sides between each stone in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 3 years, 9 months ago
It’s really true that instead of feeling for a burr, you can use the USB microscope (or really just your naked eyes) to see the light being reflected off of what want’s to be an apex. I have high intensity LED lights shining on both sides of the blade and it’s really remarkable how great that method works.

I tend to agree. I usually start at 800 grit and go from there. If I’m not seeing consistent scratch patterns the entire length of the blade, I drop it to maybe 600 to dig in a little deeper and go from there.

I do appreciate this post because I’ve been experiencing pretty much the same thing over the few years I’ve had my Gen3. Every single time I clamp a knife into it, I get angle variations off to the right and I’ve always wondered if there’s a way to correct the variation without shimming the knife back to the left. Tomorrow, I’ll do a few…[Read more]

Anyone have any experience doing one? I got a request over the weekend and don’t know if I’m setup to do one. That curve kind of makes me nervous.

With the help of all the guys on this forum, it took me a good six months to develop my own style.

Hey Jason and welcome to the forum! It took me a good six months before I developed a skillset that I could call my own with the help of the guys on this forum. There are some good YouTube videos as well as some bad ones so yeah, take those knives in the bucket and put them to the test, it’s fun!

Don’t rule out buying the 50/80 WE stones either, they do a great job. I used mine a lot since purchasing my sharpener.

Thanks, I’ve seen that. Believe me, I’ve rotated the adapter as many ways as possible and still can’t get the angle I need.

I’ve got the Gen 3 Pro and the scissor adapter. I’m trying to figure out what factory bar you’re talking about.

I swear this is going to be my last set of scissors! I do great on a cheap pair of Fiscars or Scotch but when I get a pair of expensive clothing shears or some for pet grooming, the angles on the two blades can differ up to 12 degrees.
So does anyone have a tip for either spreading the angle of the rods out more or shimming up the scissor…[Read more]

Welcome to forum BK! One point I’d like to make after Marc’s comment about YouTube videos is to be careful in implementing some of the techniques used by those posting. Some of them seem like they’re trying to set some kind of land speed record when sharpening their knives which can be extremely dangerous when someone is new to the WEPS. Ju…[Read more]

Richard replied to the topic Potential problems with my new Wicked Edge Pro (WE320)? in the forum Getting Started 4 years, 9 months ago
The only time I use the angle guide on the WEPS is when I’ve used a Sharpie on the edge and am trying to find the angle of the blade, I can adjust the angle back and forth at 0.5 degree increments until I find it. The rest of the time, I’m using my angle cube, not a big deal.

Was wandering around the courtyard of a Buddhist temple about an hour ago and saw this collection of old swords and daggers. They’re in pretty bad shape but I’m game to take on the challenge. My dilemma is can I check them and bring them back from Thailand?

It definitely is fun but don’t become impatient. Take it slow around the knives, otherwise, it can get ugly (no reaching over the knife to grab something, bring it around the back). And always go for the burr, you can’t go wrong.

Am I seeing this right? Looks to me like the DPI are identical, it’s just that more material has been removed from one side.
