Jon – if you purchased the Pro-Pack 3, then the vise will fit. If you have the Pro-Pack 2 and are adding the Gen 3 Vise, then it won’t fit, it’ll be too tall.

wickededge replied to the topic New 1500 grit stone in the forum Product Announcements 6 years ago
It’s currently a mess:
- Manufacturers use a host of different grit measurements
- Their specific grits are based on average particle sizes but don’t always match what we can measure here
- We’re limited in our measurements to particles at a few microns
- Ceramic stones that are either sintered or vitrified don’t conform to any standard scale and…

wickededge started the topic SHOT Show 2019 in the forum Off Topic 6 years ago
I’ll be off to SHOT Show in Las Vegas with most of the crew next week. We’ll have a skeleton crew back at the shop, so customer service will be happening albeit more slowly than normal. I will probably be away from the forum all week but will try to catch up as quickly as possible when I get back.

I think part of what’s missing is the Wiki we had that was lost during the move to a new platform. The Knowledge Base is designed to replace it, but is lacking that element of user contribution that the Wiki had. I’d like for us to develop some mechanism for user generated content to make its way into the KB, probably via some sort of curation…[Read more]

That job is shared between a few of us but it’s not receiving the attention it deserves. It’s on our 2019 plan to fill it out and update it more thoroughly.

wickededge replied to the topic 2K +Diamond Stones? in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years ago
These are the same 3 micron stones that we used to carry and discontinued for quality reasons, namely that the manufacturing method hasn’t been perfected and there are often very large clusters of diamonds on the stones, sometimes measuring 50-100 microns. My understanding is that localized magnetic fields are created during the plating process…[Read more]

wickededge replied to the topic Ceramics Help Needed… in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years ago
NorCalQ – not to worry. Both sets of ceramic stones also have a break in period. The 1200/1600 stones have something called the “kiln layer”. We use a process called “shot siding” to remove most of the kiln layer, but it’s imperfect and would result in damage to the stones if it were run too long. For that reason, new 1200/1600 stones always have…[Read more]
