Ralph your description of your digital device sounds like the Wixey Model Angle Cube. As airscapes says you will get use to it quickly and the math will be second nature. It does work quite well and it’s faster to lock in then many other comparably priced model. I used it for a long time.
To address your quoted question the Floureon D…[Read more]

Good job on your Benchmade, Ralph.
I have discussed with Kyle at Wicked Edge, them adding a “Gen 3 Pro Pack” to the current model line. It may be in the future. It would only need a few more accessory items to be outfitted as comprehensively as the Pro Pack 3. Since it comes with the hard case it would be easy enough to ship everything.

Welcome Jon. I’m glad you finally decided to jump in. It’s almost endless the accessories you can add. With the PP3 you have a really good start as it comes with everything you’ll need and most of the extras you might want to have to get started. I’d suggest you learn how to use your setup and with what you’ve got. That in itself with the…[Read more]

I think tip to handle to tip. I think it’d be smoother, quieter and less chipping. Long wise, it’d think it’d be more efficient with more file-knife contact per stroke. It may also avoid laterally bending the blade You’ll have to experiment once you get started.
Watch your hands! Protect your self from tip contact when getting after it an…[Read more]

I think I’d be inclined to clamp the taped up knife in a bench vise, at the knife tip. Just below the line you’ve drawn on the knife. Then I’d start off with a large/wide bastard file. maybe working longitudinally. I’d use the file to remove the steel slowly in a more controlled fashion, to rough out the desired shape. It’ll help you limit the…[Read more]

Welcome to the Forum Chuck. Safety First!! Your working with an exposed knife edge. Maybe buy yourself some cut free gloves or W.E. Safety Shields. There are cut resistant gloves available from many different sources.
Ask your grand son to teach you how to search up some Wicked Edge Videos on YouTube if you don’t know how to already. There ar…[Read more]

Michael what kind of steel? Can you post photograph? Which model?
My Shun Classic 7” Santoku is VG10 Damascus. It is hard, not very thin and not flexible at all. I’d think mine would break/snap before it would bend straight. If you heated it, it would probably disrupt the hardening.
If it’s a current model and not in too awful shape maybe [Read more]

I remember reading similar questions in the past. I don’t remember anyone ever sharing they did it with their experiences.

I’d thought, if you’d read “The Science of Sharp Article” you would have changed your understanding of the results of using the Ceramic Steel Rod. Realizing it removed steel and imparted a microbevel and did not, in reality, stand up a rolled edge, you want to use the best ceramic rod method for your Wicked Edge sharpened knife edges. Waiting t…[Read more]

If your going to use a ceramic steeling rod, which will ultimately remove some edge steel and micro-bevel your Wicked Edge profiled knives. Then at least do it in a predictable and consistent manner. Using a Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker ceramic rods or a Lansky’s Turn-Box ceramic rods would certainly allow this. The Spyderco model even al…[Read more]

Bob, you still have more sharpenings to put the stones through before they are fully broken-in. I think you’re doing yourself and your stones an injustice by not using each grit to it’s fullest before moving on to the next grit. The coarser stones are the tougher stones to break-in requiring more time. The finer grits will break-in fairly q…[Read more]

I was reminded by a Forum contributor about this article from “Science of Sharp”, What does Steeling Do
discusses the use of Steels and Ceramics in great detail with micro-photographs and concludes that edge steel is removed and a microbevel is formed.

I believe using a ceramic rod is a quick easy remedy for a rolled knife edge to allowed continued use until it can be sharpened; a band-aid.
Some ceramics are quite aggressive. Improper use or use at the wrong angle will in essence apply a micro bevel and as Tom Blodgett stated in the Jende Industries video it can remove a lot of steel resulting…[Read more]
