Klaus,
For the WE120 in a Pro Pack 2 with the fixed vise side to the left, FG & FFG knives may clamp with a left lean. This is a well-known and documented issue.
I have no knowledge or experience with clamped knives leaning to the right with the standard vise models. Hopefully, a forum member with more experience may provide a…[Read more]

Klaus, which model are you using?
For the W.E. standard vise models this includes the WE100, WE120, and WE60. For these standard vise models, when setup in the normal orientation, the fixed or stationary side of the vise is positioned to the left side and the floating or moving side, is to the right. By design the standard vise may cause a flat…[Read more]

Welcome Todd, consistency is the number one. Finger hold position and applied pressure on the stones are key. Constant flat continuous pressure between the flat sharpening stones and the bevels is required. I concentrate by using repetitive sharpening strokes to keep the applied edge work even and balanced. I verify my sharpening angles are…[Read more]

Marc H (Wicked Edge Expert Corner) replied to the topic Is the WE130 overkill for me? in the forum Main Forum 2 years, 2 months ago
It’s not like that. Each better model, a higher model number is a more expensive investment because it easier to use it well.. Each W.E. sharpener in the product line all do the same thing, sharpening knives. The more expensive models are easier to learn how to sharpen knives well. With the less expensive models you have less adjustment features…[Read more]

When I sharpen my single bevel Japanese knives I use the W.E. stone hand-held, not on the guide rod, to debur the flat side of the clamped knife. This gives you the stone control needed for that situation.
Here’s a video made by Clay describing this method:

Jim, forum member member Ed K, makes an after market micro-angle adjuster kit for W.E. models. These adjusters lock your guide rod angles very securely, precisely and tools free. They make working with the W.E. easy and enjoyable.

These newer and newer steels alloys are being devised. Their extreme hardness does present sharpening challenges. I don’t think the issue is with the sharpener used. I think it’s more about the sharpening mediums and the sharpening technique. I’ll admit I don’t have a lot of experience or opportunities to sharpen these newer high tech steels found…[Read more]

With the correct upgrade kit the WE100, no matter how old the base unit may be, can be converted to the top model in this series, that is the WE130. This is just the sharpener…[Read more]
