Yes. Zero your cube only once at the beginning of your sharpening session. The cube will read consistently as long as the W.E. sharpener sits on a stable steady surface and has not been moved or shifted.

-Terry the angle indicators on the sharpeners are just that, indicators, a suggested starting place. The true indicator of your relative bevel angles are those readings you get using a properly zeroed digital angle cube.
The angle markers on the table, as you call it, are arbitrary and were made with a knife positioned and clamped a certain w…[Read more]

My knife is so sharp I pointed it at a whole young chicken and its breasts fell off into fillets and the wings grilled themselves

Looks good. Two differences, the BESS device does capture and reflect the reading at the breaking point. Also the BESS has been tested and calibrated to the test filaments they use.
Your’s will certainly give you an indication of relative sharpness. Good job. You get an “A” for ingenuity.

Just use them regularly as you would use the diamond stones. I can’t give you a timeline. I just can share that they took longer to break in then I expected. Some users suggest that rubbing the ceramic stones together like grit against the same grit helps wear the surface coating off. Only use these ceramic stones dry. Do not use an abras…[Read more]

Glen, just so you know, the ceramic stones are used just like the diamond stones, except they have a long break-in period. They seem to have a coating on the stones from the high heat manufacturing process. They do require some amount of use and wear to remove this coating and to get the best results out of them. They are non-magnetic and th…[Read more]

Marc H (Wicked Edge Expert Corner) replied to the topic WE 130 Degree markings off considerably in the forum Main Forum 4 years, 11 months ago
Jogan, those markings on the angle bar are not absolute, rather an approximation. Just an indicator. These indicators correspond to certain knife size and clamped position W.E chose to use to calibrate the device with, while making these angle markings. These markings are only intended to give you an idea but are not a true value of your ang…[Read more]

Mr Fat, the Gen 3 Pro uses a 2 part locking set-up. The ball end screw, threads into the bracket from the inside, while the locking or snuggling screw threads in from the outside of the bracket. The angles are locked by running the screw ends in against each other inside the bracket’s threaded hole. The system is not very positive and there is…[Read more]

IMO the WE130 is the best balance between ease of use, ease of adjustability and value. If you break it down there is a little savings when you purchase a Pro Pack model vs buying the components separately. Like airscapes said, many of us started small and shortly later ended up spending much more by upgrading our set ups. In reality we would h…[Read more]

Plain and simply, with Wicked Edge Sharpeners, you get what you pay for. The more you spend the simpler and the easier to use the sharpener model is. None of the sharpeners are bad. They all allow you to achieve the same sharp edge. The more you spend the easier it us to do this.

I finish with the edge leading strokes to make sure I have removed any remnants of a burr to expose the sharpened edge.

Glenn, first 170-180 BESS score is respectfully sharp and nothing to sneeze at.
Without knowing anything other then 20dps setting and your grit medium progressions all I can suggest, (and assuming your diamonds are well broken in), is to recommend more effort and attention to detail. Simply put, make sure your angles are checked for…[Read more]

Eric the beauty of the W.E. is the ease of (re)profiling the edge angles. I wouldn’t want to punch label a my knives. The sharpening angle is listed in my sharpening log along with the W.E. clamping position and other pertinent information I keep on each knife I sharpen. After using knives for a while, to get a good feel for the edge’s du…[Read more]

Eric here’s some photos. The concept and actual adapter are a collaborative effort between Doug, forum participant “airscapes” and myself. The 3D printed mounts, designed, programmed and printed by Doug, secure a DMT Diamond Sharpener. The adapters are then able to be mounted to W.E. handles.
To use these adapters you need to be able stay pe…[Read more]
