If they fit into one another then I don’t see why not. It might get a little wobbly and the 12 inch rods may not be long enough but it will make the angle more acute.

Organic replied to the topic Another stones progression question in the forum Abrasives 5 years, 7 months ago
Similar in finish to the diamond lapping films is a statement that I take issue with. The ceramic stones provide a sharp finish that is kind of hazy. They don’t seem to be able to produce that mirror-like glitzy looking edge that the diamond lapping films excel at. This is not to say that you can’t produce a mirrored edge using the ceramic stones…[Read more]

Another great accessory would be at set of Black Axle Boots like these:
So many users use them already to protect the ball joints from diamond dust from the stones, so why not offer them as an accessory? Once again you can save the users a lot of time because they don’t have to search for the right ones and perhaps buy some that are less than o…[Read more]

An argument against offering a set of four shaft collars as an accessory could be that there are so many different collars out there, and the users should be able to choose the ones that they like the most.
But this is not the issue here. By offering the collars as an accessory, you save the users from having to wonder which collars will do the…[Read more]

What a great idea, Expedia! A set of four Shaft Collars will be a very cheap and useful accessory. You could even add a set of thick rubber o rings, that can reduce the shock, when the stones hit the collars. I’m sure this accessory will be a great help to many users, and they will get much more out of their sharpener by using the collars.
As E…[Read more]

I would expect that you’ll need 50 to 100 passes to get similar levels of scratch pattern uniformity. As you already suggested, this will depend on the knife’s blade steel, the blade length, and how worn in your diamond stones are. The only real way to judge this is with the use of a magnifying device such as USB microscope or a jeweler’s…[Read more]

And then there is customs and tax: 25 USD + 25% VAT!
Life ain ‘t cheap…

Yes, they do!

I think your main problem here is that you aren’t doing enough passes. Diamond sharpening media abrade metal much more efficiently than ceramic. You will need to do a lot more passes relative to what you do with the diamond stones in order to remove the scratches from the previous grit. The stones might not be broken in yet either, but I got…[Read more]

Haffner replied to the topic WTB: Wicked Edge Blank Handles in the forum Want to Buy 5 years, 8 months ago
For my actual purpose, I really need the old style of handles, because they can be taken apart.
I will be gluing some 5 mm thick stones to the black centrepieces and then total thickness of the handles will be just the same as the ordinary Wicked Edge handles. Getting the paddle thickness back to 30 mm is quite important, because then the…[Read more]

I use four 1/4 inch Shaft Collars to control the movements of my paddles.
They work so well, I think they ought to be available as a standard Wicked Edge accessory.

Hi,
Does anyone in here have one or two Blank Handles they can spare or will sell?
It is important, that the handles are the old black and red type like these:

Get the “Threaded Shaft Collars”, and buy four of them.
When you have the 12 inch rods, it’s often a good idea to use clamps on both ends of the rods.

Haffner replied to the topic New to Wicked Edge in the forum Welcome Mat 5 years, 8 months ago
Indeed, but let me recommend you to use clamping shaft collars as paddle stops. Once you secure the collars on the guide rods, they will stay in place, even when you hit them multiple times while moving the paddles.
However, do avoid collars with set screws as they might damage your guide rods.

Organic replied to the topic New to WE, angle issues in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years, 8 months ago
If the angle guide rods didn’t move then the answer is likely that your knife slipped downward in the clamp ever so slightly. I suggest that you should set it up for 19 degrees per side again when resharpening and then check with a sharpie to see that you have removed metal all the way to the apex. If not, make minor adjustments and check…[Read more]

Organic replied to the topic Sharpening previously sharpened knives in the forum Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years, 8 months ago
You’ve already received some good advise. I want to reiterate Marc’s point: do not sharpen you Kramer knives right away. Do yourself a favor and sharpen a few knives that you don’t care about too much first. This will give your stones time to break in and will help you to figure out how to find the sweet spot, how to avoid accidentally marring the…[Read more]

Organic replied to the topic Is Strop Repair Possible? in the forum Main Forum 5 years, 8 months ago
Strops work quite differently than the hard abrasives (diamond lapping film, diamond plates, ceramic stones). The leather is malleable and the diamond (or CBN) abrasives are not firmly anchored. Consequently, I find it beneficial to intentionally overlap the grit ratings of strops and hard abrasives in my sharpening sequence. For example, I…[Read more]
