After looking at the “enclosed ball end joints” it appears to me that part would not have the right properties for the functions we are needing. A ball joint end is meant to push/pull as a solid bushinged attachment point.
What we are using is a Heim joint or rod end bearing. We are using it for the fixed position rotation motion provided with…[Read more]

Billabong there is an Australian dealer Zanvack for guided sharpening supplies. We are making and using aftermarket products that better meet our desired sharpening accessories needs. We’ve been pushing W.E. for years to incorporate these improvements in the standard W.E. setups.
If you are willing to work with some of us W.E. users we may be a…[Read more]

I’ve been never seen that style ball ends. I’ve been using W.E. systems since around 2016…those parts appear to predate my experiences.
I’d like to believe that parts uupgrades by W.E. are made to improve sharpening efficiency not just profitability and that you’d be better off migrating to the newer style parts we’re using now.
I can share…[Read more]

I have included photos to verify you have the same vise model in the pictures. The vise uses the hex key to lock the jaws. All W.E. models use the same guide rods. The only difference is rod length.
I’m asking $75 for used the Low Angle Adapter and the 12″ guide rod pair. Shipping in CONUS is included in asking price.
Please PM if you ar…[Read more]

Here’s a deal. I picked up one as a backup a couple months ago. Other than the “Refurbished” sticker you’d think it was new:

I sharpened my Takeda NAS tall 210mm Wa Gyuto today. It’s the thinnest bladed Japanese Chef’s knife in my kitchen at less than 1.5mm thick in the heel at the handle. It’s made of high carbon Aogami Super, HRc 63-64. It’s sharpened at 11º per side. The thinness and the flexibility of the blade steel make it challenging to sharpen this knife in…[Read more]

Some of us are using this scope holder accessory with the Pluggable Scope. It takes all the focusing issues/problems away. Now, where I set it, it stays until I choose to re-adjust the focus ring. This scope accessory was devised for hand-held scope use.
Here’s a couple edge photos taken hand-held. They are of the bevel and tip at high power b…[Read more]

The style is Wa Bunka. It’s a nice enjoyable style to use. It’s a cross between a Gyuto, chef’s knife, and a Santoku, multipurpose knife.
Ed K’s wife may be able to read the Kanji to help identify the brand.
From the looks it’s a high carbon steel like blue #2 or Aogami Super. Those steels are hard but sharpens nicely with the W.E. diamond s…[Read more]

Welcome to the W.E. Forum, Joe.
I am another user and fan of the inexpensive Plugable 2.0 USB scope from Amazon. I’ve bought and used probably 8 or 10 different scopes over the years and it’s still my favorite one to use. Quick and simple for my hand-held method for edge inspections.
Using a scope for inspecting your sharpening progress and…[Read more]

Magnets seem like a good idea but they do not fare well once they start collecting fine steel dust from knife sharpening. Especially if the magnet(s) are strong enough to hold well and stay where placed. I found the very fine steel dust piles on the magnets and grows like a steel furr ball. It tends to just push and move around on the magnet as…[Read more]

That boning knife isn’t that big and the blade looks mostly flat in the blade center. I think I would have clamped it so the center flat portion is centered with the jaw and the blade was mostly parallel to the jaw line, with it high up in the jaws so it’s clamped by just the tips of the jaws . That’d be essentially with the tip just lowered a bit…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Gen 3 Pro Vise Tension in the forum Sharpener and Accessory Maintenance 2 years, 9 months ago
With the originally released versions of the Gen 3 cam action vise the vise sides were open exposing the cam itself. That version also used a classic spring for tension. For that version it was prudent to tape up the sides to keep the action clean and free. The newer Gen 3 vise versions, released since then, have a redesigned vise body that is…[Read more]
