The CK Knives video relates several inaccuracies. The stones he is unpacking, that he just purchased from Oldawan are the same price stone for stone, grit for grit, at WIcked Edge, USA. Bob @ Oldawan does ship free, included in the price. W.E. ships free with a min. $100 purchase. There are some resellers on eBay and Amazon selling WE produ…[Read more]

I am still using original stones from over 5 years ago. I have no knife count on them, but it’s in the hundreds. I can say the finer grit stones will wear faster then the coarser stones, especially if they are used when a lower grit, more abrasive stone, would have been better suited for the job. If I find after a few minutes of effort that th…[Read more]

I recently bought two WE130 Portables. I also own two earlier models: WE130 upgraded from Pro Pack II, and a Gen 3 Pro. The new WE130’s did not include the lock nuts on the guide rods. The lock nuts really are unnecessary. If the rods were to come loose it doesn’t effect the angle because it is still in-line. The loss of the nut allows for…[Read more]

I have used the tape intending it for both of those purposes. To protect the steel from accidental scratches and to keep the steel dust out of the inner workings; the hinge and locking mechanism. Whether it’s helpful and effective for those purposes, or not, I will continue to use it, because I feel better knowing it’s there.

Brian, welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum. Our Forum is broken into the “Main Forum” and the “WE GO Forum”. When you go to the “Main Forum” it is organized by “categories”. There are sections under each category that share pertinent common information.
Under the category: Sharpening and Accessory Maintenance, you’ll see “MODS”. There are man…[Read more]

Tom, what you never meant to suggest is in essence what I suggested in the original post that began this thread. For someone to mine the older threads, than today, for relevance to a technical issue. That someone was Forum members and participants; new and old. It seems we do agree in the value of reading old threads! That’s what we Foru…[Read more]

Tom, I write Tom, because I’m trying to address his comments. What I write is my opinion, insight and understanding of this issue.
The Forum and the Knowledge Base are autonomous. They are separate entities. We Forum members, participants, readers, contributors are self driven. What happens here happens through interactions between Forum mem…[Read more]

Tom, I like your idea and thinking but turn it around. The Forum can reference or link the “Knowledge Base”, but the “Knowledge Base” cannot reference or link the Forum. The Forum is autonomous. A Forum by it’s nature is self driven by it’s members, participants and contributors. It is a place where participants can share their knowledge and…[Read more]

I believe the premise of a Forum is to be able to read a thread, and old threads of past discussions. Otherwise this would be a “chat room”.
Tom I see your point and can’t argue it. I haven’t read a book in years. I only read to find answers to questions. I do believe those of us who really want to get into this sharpening stuff and gain a ful…[Read more]

After giving it some thought: maybe close the knife on a folded strip or piece of paper inserted down into the blade slot and feel for resistance when the knife is folded closed. If the paper slides or slips under the point then I’d guess it doesn’t rest on it. You also should be able to ball up a really small wad of paper and shove it down in…[Read more]

Organic, do you know a way of determining if the tip does indeed effect the knife closing.

NorCalQ, I have not done one myself. I have learned through forum participation that there are several different methods others have employed to work around that knife configuration.
One, tcmeyer has just suggested, to employ a different or modified stone stroke in close proximity to the “kick” to allow you to blend that less or differently…[Read more]

First we introduce ourselves as a new Wicked Edge owner/user on this Wicked Edge Forum. Then we participate by asking questions. Later, hopefully, searching and reading, on our own, to gain more experience and to expand our knowledge. Then, maybe later, we share our experiences and post with pride the fruits of our labor. That’s when…[Read more]

NorCalQ, I want to point out to you that your results shown in the picture exemplify how truly polished and mirror appearing a bevel can be attained with a relatively basic progression and not a terrible amount of effort once you learn your technique and put it to practice. I truly believe excellent results are mostly about: good technique,…[Read more]

Knife sharpeners have been finely sharpening knives with all kinds of mediums, by free hand, for ever. Back to a rock. After using the Wicked Edge with it’s fixed angle precision, I think we over emphasize the need for perfectly smooth and flat sharpening mediums and sometimes blame these imperfections for our results. We are not using da…[Read more]

I believe the “true V Bevel” you like and see is the results of your entire efforts of good technique, time and attention to details, not any one step in general. It’s not until you reach the culmination, while using the lapping films, do you see the true fruits of your labor. Enjoy the reward.
