Have you priced a Japanese knife, or eve quality US made Pocket Knives??
The WE is not a gun manufacture that has been around since 1873 so you can not really compared the manufacturing capabilities and vendor buying power of global giant gun manufacture to a US Small business The WE is also made in the US like many guns are. My buddy said to me when I bought the WE about or 6 years ago, “You know, you could buy a new set of knives every year for quite a few years for what you are paying to sharpen the ones you have!” He was not wrong..
It is a tool, good tools that are well made and accurate cost more than those that are not.
Buy it or don’t buy it. If you can not justify the expense then why bother commenting, it’s like going to the a Corvette forum and complaining about the cost of the the car.. is it worth what they charge.. depends on who you are.. my 20 year old Pacifica is a lot more comfortable to drive on a 400 miles trip but not as much fun.. It costs a lot of money to keep a small business running, so if we want stuff made in the US, then as a consumer we need to pay for it, so the companies can stay in business and keep employing people..
If you really do want one, you can always look at use, these things last for decades. People buy them and like many hobbies, lose interest after a year or 2 and then sell them. Many of used units are virtually just broken in and ready to use (New stone take a good bit of use to get fully broken in). It does take some time an effort to lean to use the tool correctly to get repeated results each time. It is not plug and play and not a power tool, so takes time to use..

I am guessing WE has what you need!

07/13/2023 at 9:32 am #58628Welcome Gordon, the 60/66 is really meant to be a portable unit compared to the majority of the pervious units that had larger granite bases etc. There seems to be a lot of folks selling the older units on the facebook page. You may be able to get what you are looking for there at a faction of the cost of new. Many folks buy the system as you did, but do not become as involved. Then they sell and move on to something else with very little use on the used equipment.
I make a bunch of accessories for the older units as well as some for the 60/66 including a riser block that when added to the 60/66 along with some 13″ rods makes it much less cramped and you can get full use of the the stone length. There is a post somewhere with all the accessories made by myself, Marc and Ed but do not have it on hand. Here is my PDF Brochures if you have not seen it.

03/04/2023 at 3:50 pm #58449Well no.. with the fixed jaw vise (standard and LAA) the knife will lean. This will cause one side of the bevel to be wider and one to be narrow.. Does not make the knife less sharp or work any different.. You can play with the angles reducing one side by a degree or so and increasing the other, but I get too confused and just sharpen the knife.. my wife will use it and make it dull again.. repeat..
02/02/2023 at 8:18 am #58425Stephen, I sent you a PM with my email address
01/31/2023 at 9:12 pm #58422I’m interest in both
Sent you a PM
01/27/2023 at 7:44 am #58386you may want to think about an angle cube if you don’t have one. Once your bevel is more than 5/8″ above the vise, the numbers on the device are no longer accurate. I just didn’t see one in any of the photos so assume you do not have one.

01/22/2023 at 6:58 am #58380I would keep the 130, it is larger with more room to work. There are also more accessories for it and you already have it in fort of you. The New models were to replace an older portable WE Go.. The Obsidian is Portable, small and compact. It does NOTHING different or better than the WE130, other than it comes with a C-Clamp to mount it to your kitchen table.. In my opinion the 66 need a riser block to raise the vise to a better working level. As it is from the factory , you will have to flip you stone over after every stork if you want to have the entire stone used and wear evenly.. In other words, with a pocket knife mounted, you will only be using 1/2 of the stone to sharpen the knive.. the other half is always above the blade unused..

01/19/2023 at 6:05 pm #58369With the riser I make, I suggest the 13″ rods and a set of stone stops. The stops will prevent you going too high and coming down on the fresh bevel or going too low on a taller knife.

01/03/2023 at 3:29 pm #58337you would be surprised at how many people buy complete systems and 2 months later sell them..
