Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum, Bruce. Did you read the Shopper’s and Buyer’s Guide, at the top on the “Recent” topics forum page. I gave a breakdown of the high and low points of each model? There is also a comprehensive table comparing features, technical specifications, options and prices.
Maybe you can share with the forum what fea…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Clamping pressure/tension in the forum Main Forum 5 years, 11 months ago
Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum, Al. Yes sometimes the pressure seems pretty tight even with the lowest setting on the tension adjuster, like you said, especially with a thicker knife blade. The split jaws are designed and made from a flexible type of aluminum to allow them to bend and flex with the pressure. I think that only with time and yo…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Forum and Sharpening Community Kevin. If we can be of any help just ask. Be aware that your sharpening stones have a break-in period of about 10 knives before they start to yield their best results. This coincides with about the time and sharpening experience it takes most new W. E. users to get the hang of it.

Marc H replied to the topic Can I Sharpen This Angle? in the forum Getting Started 5 years, 11 months ago
Not with the Pro Pack I. The Pro Pack I has no micro-angle adjustment feature or capability. With that particular model you will not have the angle control necessary to set the precise angles of your choosing. If you want to be able to pick and choose the exact angles you want to apply to a knife edge, you will need either the WE120 vice mo…[Read more]

I thought this was a good time to give this thread another bump forward for our more recent Forum enrollees. Clicking the “Thanks” word, (top right on the response box, in orange), is the best way to show forum members and forum readers you have read their replies to your questions. Otherwise you leave us thinking maybe our helpful answers f…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum NorCalQ. You can follow this upgrade Selection Guide to determine which upgrade kit 130UP2 for $320 or 130UP3 for $355 is the compatible upgrade for your model. It will depend on the year your ProPack was produced. The 130UP3 is for the older ProPack I and the 130Up2 is for the newer model Pro Pack I. This…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic The advanced alignment guide: what am I doing wrong? in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 5 years, 11 months ago
I made a custom modded Advanced Alignment Guide “on steroids”: Here’s what I started with.
I used the depth key to mark my desired hole positions. I used a 1/8″ drill and enlarged the holes ever so slightly to maintain a very tight fit on the depth key prongs. It stays in place! I used this long/wide ruler to allow me to record positions of…[Read more]

Also if you make your own alignment guide from a long metal ruler….If you sharpen larger kitchen type knives that get center clamped with knife portions both forward and behind the jaw center-line, you may want to place holes in the center of the ruler so it can give you position markers on both sides of the vice jaws.

I’m sure they’ll replace them both. It’s just an inconvenience. If you make your own metal one try to drill holes so it fits the depth key pins snuggly to stands out straight, horizontally so does flop or hang down.

Are you sure the blue isn’t a peel off plastic backing? Mine came with a blue peel off backing.

My guess is they were thinking you could better see the knives position when the see-through thin plastic ruler overlapped the knives behind it, like seen with the taller Advanced Alignment Guide, (AAG).

I’m sure if you contact Wicked Edge customer service they would like to hear your feedback. I believe you must have an AAG from a badly printed batch. I’m sure they will gladly replace it for you.
I agree the thin narrow ruler type (standard) alignment guide lacks the integrity seen in the original thin steel earlier model alignment gu…[Read more]

Marc H replied to the topic Are my expectations too high? in the forum Main Forum 5 years, 11 months ago
Aaron, I’m sorry to hear your frustration. Finishing the edge, after the 1000 grit, with the leather strops will enhance the paper cutting ability by smoothing the sharpened edge removing some of the toothiness.
With enough effort and attention to detail throughout your sharpening progression up to and including the 1000 grit stone you should b…[Read more]

Welcome to our Wicked Edge Forum and Sharpening Community, Chad. The Gen 3 Pro is a great choice to attain those mirrored polished bevels. The sharpening stones/paddles have about a 10 knife break-in period before they start to give their best results. I suggest you utilize this break in period as your learning period while sharpening your old…[Read more]

I did cut them shorter using a sharp razor knife pressed hard between the threads to make a starter cut. They’ll just snap at the cut.
