To the best of my knowledge, the strop compounds, sprays and emulsion are aqueous bases, (i.e. water based distribution vehicles).
I agree that oils like neatsfoot oil have been used to treat leather for years and years, to maintain suppleness. I don’t know that’s necessarily the best mix with the aqueous stropping compounds/vehicles.

I never consider how long it takes to sharpen a knife. For me this is an enjoyable hobby. It takes what ever time it takes. I continue working at it till I have results I’m satified with. Whether it’s a 30 minute touch-up or a two day sharpening marathon, it’s all the same.

Just to be clear, umeuph, all W.E. models use the same stones and accessories. (Except the stand alone portable WEGO model, that you’re not interested in). That means any sharpening stones and accessories you buy with your beginning model will also work with another model if you choose to start inexpensive and upgrade later.

Matt, the standard included jaw set are only capable to expand to 3/16″. The XM-18 Spanto approaches this width at 0.16″.

The primary bevel is the angle the knife edge has been, or, is being sharpened to. This bevel is from the knife blades edge shoulder up to the knife edge. A burr formed while sharpening is a telltale indicator that your sharpening efforts have been thorough, correct, effective and you’re reaching or apexing the knife edge.

I share Organic’s opinion. I finish each knife I sharpen with at least the 4micron/2micron strop combo.
