I like both of these sharpening progressions. I like any grit progression that gets the knife sharp.
when I started with my “Wicked Edge” I had a very dull home made knife that was made from a file. I used my 50 grit stone until that file knife was as sharp as I could get it. and that was not very sharp at all.
then I went to 80 grit, as sharp…[Read more]

Diamond are the most efficient for sharpening a knife when it comes to time spent for me. But I do avoid metal that chips easy. I did lose some time a couple of years ago on some 50/80 grit diamond stones that I cleaned with water dish soap and a tooth brush. the stones actually got to where they stopped taking off metal. Now I give my diamond…[Read more]

If your bevel full of scratches makes it all the way to the apex.
and if real fine diamond are slow to take those scratches out of the very edge.
then if you touch up the knife often you with those fine diamonds, you will slowly get that beautiful polish and get maximum use of the little bit of toothy from the scratches.
You did every thing…[Read more]

welcome to the forum Karl, I hope you have great success with your Wicked Edge. If this is your first knife sharpened with the sharpener please start with a knife that you do not mind getting messed up. If CR knife is what In think it is, get that beautiful polished edge on a couple of other knives first. these diamonds can really rip things up.…[Read more]

Dwight Glass replied to the topic Having trouble getting my angles right in the forum Wicked Edge GO 6 years ago
the clamping system with parallel-face jaws manual operated with an Allen key has one jaw bolted solid and the other jaw moves to clamp. Because of this the knife will be off center in the vice. So adjust the main and micro adjustments on the angle rod to match the target angle you are looking for on the angle cube (or some angle finding…[Read more]

Martin the trial and error is the length of the set screw. the “thread size is 10-32”. I think Stainless Steel is the way to go. I wanted one with a nylon tip on the set screw and found some at “Fastenal” it is 3/8 inch long and is in the old style Low Angle Adapter on the manual vice.

Dwight Glass replied to the topic WE- Whetstones??? in the forum Tips for Specific Knife Grinds and Styles 6 years, 1 month ago
yes It can be messy. (How do you apply it?) “Hobby Lobby” sells a small plastic bottle with an eyedropper in the lid, with art paint supplies. But a stick in a cup will work to put a few drops on the stone. (How do you deal with the run off and mess?) After sharpening with a stone and before I go to the next stone I wipe the stone off with a paper…[Read more]

Dwight Glass replied to the topic Mounting a knife in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 1 month ago
I use the clamp made by Tormek “SVM-00” to hold small knives above the vice and it holds the knife by the handle so nothing is in the way of the blade when i am sharpening. I also check the angel of each stone with an angle cube or some kind of level because one side of my vice is stationary and the other side moves when I clamp the knife. So the…[Read more]

When I called in an order on the phone about 9 months ago, I asked about a bumper sticker or some thing with the name “Wicked Edge” on it. They had a hat siting around that they sent with my order. It was not a stock item at that time.

Dwight Glass replied to the topic Strop Expectations in the forum Stropping 6 years, 2 months ago
wow this forum gives me some options. I have been stropping 11 degrees more acute than the stones or film to retain edge strength. But with my straight razor I lose endurance with the edge for A while after sharpening the razor with the “Black Arkansas” stone, now I know why the stropping give me a stronger edge. Thanks Clay
