Thanks again MarkH excellent point. I do use trailing edge strokes and an elongated edge makes perfect sense. Should I use edge leading for my final diamond grit? I’m aware of the safety hazards using edge leading.

Thank you MarcH. I appreciate your advise and will try to reverse engineer my process. As a side note I use a very light touch with my stropping and the increase in edge sharpness is always impressive to me. Also I do use a loupe and I don’t see any remnants of a burr after sharpening however I haven’t looked at the edge after the loss of p…[Read more]

I’ve been using WE for quite some time and have always had this issue. I can get a very sharp edge going up to my super fine ceramics or 3000 diamond stones. I strop with leather 5.0 and 3.5 microns. But with little use it loses its keen edge quickly mainly cutting thin cardboard. Even if I only go to 1000 grit finished with a strop I still have…[Read more]

I run micro bevels on all of my EDC’s for the touch up reason you were asking about. I generally sharpen at 17* with a 20* micro bevel. When I touch up very little steel is removed. Use this on all my Leatherman’s and a few others. I also micro bevel my kitchen knives using more acutely angles. As far as adding a toothy edge I too go with 100…[Read more]

Completely agree with Marc on Using a strop to do as many touch ups as possible. May I also suggest when you do need to touch up with diamonds use a micro bevel as to take as little as steel as possible.

To me it just makes sense to add a sharpening choil unless it’s a high end collector piece, that shouldn’t be used or sharpened anyway. I add one to all my knives it really helps protect against bolster or handle damage and IMHO I like the way they look.

I use my Tormek to profile and finish on my WE all the time. The hollow bevel from the Tormek is so insignificant that I’ve not seen an issue.

On my Go with the leather strops I added to it the edge I get I greatly improved above what I get just ending at the 600 grit. Excellent edge for my hard working cardboard cutting EDC.

I have a Go with steer leather strops using .3 and . 5 micron paste and I get very good results. Of course I cannot get the mirror finish that I get with my ProPack, the results are a little toothy which is exactly what I want on a kitchen or EDC knife. I would start there, it doesn’t cost anymore to add later. Just my two cents worth.

My go is great I did add a set of 5 / 3.5 leather strops and it works very well for keeping my edc sharp.
