Another update. It appears that the cover image feature is accidentally blocked by a wordpress plugin that we use to prevent spam signups and spam activity. Meaning, it’s blocked for everyone, and not that any of us is trying to spam the forum. Because that anti-spam plugin is overall a really helpful thing, and because it may take a lot of developer work to try to make it compatible with cover image, I think we may need to disable the cover image feature. Noting that this is different from a user’s profile photo which does work fine.

04/03/2023 at 12:53 pm #58497The team updated me this morning that they’re still trying to figure it out and fix it (we host the forum on WordPress, and our hosting company provides support on WordPress issues like this).

01/09/2020 at 1:44 pm #53000A quick update (although not yet a solution). We’re working to solve the root problem, but until then:
- Avoid using the toolbar button to create a link; this seems to trigger the problem (replies are hidden, until manually approved by a moderator)
- You can safely type in a URL (ex. https://wickededgeusa.com)
HUGE thanks to MarcH and Airscapes for their troubleshooting, which has led to this discovery.

01/09/2020 at 7:49 am #52977Thanks all, for your great troubleshooting. It seems that any topic or reply that includes links is automatically removed until it’s approved by a moderator.
But I don’t know why this has started to happen. We run several anti-spam plugins, any one of which could’ve received a recent update that changes its behavior. So I’m in the process of looking for that needle in a haystack. In the meantime, I’ll try to keep an eye on those topics that get removed for moderation, to approve them so they’ll reappear.

01/08/2020 at 5:11 pm #5296312/30/2019 at 1:15 pm #52842Hi All – Quick admin note, to try and avoid any confusion. While I think this is a great thread, I (the “Developer” profile) didn’t originally create it. As it was from 2015, and we’ve updated our forum a couple of times, migrating old posts as we go, many of the old posts got reassigned to my profile as the original user no longer had an account.
So, please keep up the great discussion, just know that I’m not actually the author of the 2015 topic.

02/20/2019 at 8:47 am #49459I think this is one for a support ticket with the Wicked Edge team, https://support.wickededgeusa.com/portal/newticket.
I hope you’re able to get it back up and functioning soon.

02/18/2019 at 7:54 pm #49418Hi Keith – Welcome! It’s Chris, and I’m glad I could help.
I also used my WE on kitchen knives, for the most part. I’ve brought back-to-life a couple of cheap paring knives, and a 9″ butcher knife, and several in between.

12/28/2018 at 12:33 pm #48778Thanks for the input, we always appreciate it when forum members provide usability requests (for background, I help keep the forum up and running; and for usability, I’m in kind of a facilitator role, but not the decision maker, which is in Clay’s bailiwick).
For attachments, we’ve really emphasized making them usable as embedded content in the post, which has included bumping up the max attachment size, and allowing big / high-resolution images to be embedded into the content (rather than just thumbnails, which must then be clicked). Overall, this seems to have worked quite well.
For the issue of opening an attachment… I’d be interested in the input of other members, just to get more data points. IMO there are probably as many downsides to auto-opening a new window (or new tab), as there would be benefits. It’s also not going to be 100% reliable, as that’s a behavior that’s often misused/abused by spam websites, and thus browsers can be set to prevent it. Also, opening the attachment in a new window can lead to lots of open browser windows, unless one keeps on top of closing each one.
At the same time, I get that it’s kind of odd to end up on a browser page with no menu or navigation, which is the current situation.
I would end up on the side of keeping it as-is. My explanation is that I rarely open the attachment itself, as the embedded version usually works for me. I also like the method of right-clicking things that I want to open in a new window. And… I do struggle with getting too many tabs and windows open as it is. Again, just my opinion.

07/08/2018 at 7:23 am #46853Hi Todd, thanks for the feedback. That’s a good suggestion; I’ve disabled the recaptcha for logins for existing users. If it turns out that this allows a way for spammers to get in, we may have to reenable it, but here’s hoping it works.

07/04/2018 at 1:19 pm #46811Idea… We should add a field to link to youtube videos, or other video hosting, as I do see a lot of people post knife-specific videos. And then you take your settings (angles, progression, etc.) and add that to the form.
