Ouch!!!, I lost my tip of the left ring finger just like that. It seemed like it bled for hours.
I promised myself after that, that I would find a way to sharpen my knives safer. Especially since I utilize, as you do, “edge leading strokes”. Bringing the stone down and onto the sharp exposed knife edge makes us very susceptible to cat…[Read more]

The Wicked Edge System is a very fine precise hand tool when operated properly with consistent technique. It’s up to us as operators to apply “an even edge across the blade length just by the nature of the stones on the rods sweeping the exact same plane each time.” That is, while we hold the stones in our hands apply pressure and weight whi…[Read more]

There are different price point models of that particular testing machines. The most expensive device is for the sharper range knives like I believe we’d be needing. I believe you can buy the testing medium and refill your own testing clips as opposed to purchasing and using the disposable clips.
The experience you gain with and what you’ll l…[Read more]

Watchdog, I do suggest you research and compare all the different Wicked Edge models and their features. Don’t let the price point of the system be you sole deciding factor. This is a precision tool you’re investing in and something you’ll have and use for years to come. Look beyond your initial purchase.
All of the Wicked Edge Sytems will al…[Read more]

Paul it’s a pretty cool and expensive toy to quantify the sharpness of one very tiny spot along the entire knife edge. You test a spot, replace the test clip, test another spot then replace another test clip. Yes it gives a quantified test result, point by point, down the knife edge. If used properly and systematically, employed as a lea…[Read more]

Watchdog, based on my experience with WE, if you purchase the PP2 now and pay for the complete setup and they owe you the Microfine ceramics, they will send them to you, first on their list, when they are available.
You’ll still be able to sharpen knives quite well lacking the ceramic stones and it’s not that long before they should have them to…[Read more]

I have not experienced sharpening this knife, myself. Roman, you’ve been around the Wicked Edge System and this Forum for a little while now, so you know, if you can clamp the knife you can sharpen it. The issue is, can you clamp the knife, in a way, without scratching or damaging the knife sides, that’s repeatable, and will allow you document a…[Read more]

Ian, thank you for the offer to buy my seldom used model. I’m fortunate that I don’t need the funds I have tied up in the Gen 3 Pro and that I have the space to keep it without it being clutter. I look forward to using it again, in the future. You never know know when Wicked Edge will release new upgrades for the older models enhancing or i…[Read more]

I have both the Gen 3 Pro and the WE130. I use my WE130 almost exclusively. I think the last time I used the Gen 3 Pro was over 6 months ago.
If I could do it all over again, knowing what I know now, I would not have bought the Gen 3 Pro. I don’t regret purchasing it. I enjoyed the experiences using it and learning more about sharpening wit…[Read more]

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum Ian. The Field and Sport Pro has all the same positive attributes as the WE130 and it is also portable. There are no more issues with clamping the F&S Pro then you would expect and encounter with any device of this nature. All you need is a table allowing the “C” clamp to be used securely and you’re set. I wou…[Read more]

Eric I’m taking it that you think if you use a stone to remove steel then the next stone set at the same angle will now lean against a narrower steel knife because the knife edge was worked by the first stone that removed a small amount of steel, so now the angle will have changed. The stone is making the bevel parallel to the relative angle the…[Read more]

Eric, welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum and Community. When we research sharpeners and come across the “Wicked Edge Precision Sharpeners”, (WEPS), and read about the mirrored reflective superlatively sharp edges the users achieve, it’s not explained that it takes time, effort, and experience using the WEPS to achieve those results. There is a b…[Read more]

Cate, just to let you know for when you do you’re reading, the Wicked Edge Go, (WE GO), is somewhere between the WE100 and the WE120, models. It has the fixed angle pivots arms of the WE100 but with a more similar kind of angle micro-adjustment ability of the WE120. It has all the same precise sharpening ability of even the most expensive and e…[Read more]

Cate the WE GO like all other WEPS does have a learning curve and a bit of a break in period for your sharpening stones to start working optimally. The best suggestion is as you said read, read and read, on this Forum. There are many good YouTube Videos to watch with lots of good information too. Any way we can help, we’re here for you.

I just shake the suspension very very well, first. Then I apply 4 or 5 spray dollops with the sprayer applicator almost touching the leather across both strips then I rub the two same grit strop sides together to spread the diamond spray emulsion over the entire leather surface. It appears thick, gloppy and muddy on the leather, not smooth. I…[Read more]

Marc H (Wicked Edge Expert Corner) replied to the topic Applying Diamond Emulsion Stropping Compounds in the forum Stropping 6 years, 5 months ago
Try moistening the strops with rubbing alcohol from a spritz bottle before using the strops. Even if the paste flakes off some of the diamond abrasives that were in the paste should have been rubbed into and embedded into the leather strop. The paste will eventually rub in. Just keep using them and reapplying the past when needed. If it loo…[Read more]

Marc H (Wicked Edge Expert Corner) replied to the topic Leather looks flaky in the forum Stropping 6 years, 5 months ago
On the WE strops the leather strops use the smooth tanned side of the leather. Other strops I own and use do have the rough side out to be used for stropping. I don’t know that it matters except the rough side or the sanded leather may appear differently than the smooth side, especially after applying the stropping compound. I have not hea…[Read more]

They really don’t look problematic. They’re not cut or gouged hardly at all. They almost look like something was applied to the leather that kept the strop emulsion or strop paste from absorbing and spreading into the leather. I would just reapply the strop emulsion/paste and keep using it. If you’re really bothered by the appearance. Wipe…[Read more]

Marc H (Wicked Edge Expert Corner) replied to the topic New to sharpening – question about technique in the forum Basic Techniques and Sharpening Strategies 6 years, 5 months ago
The art of sharpening is to learn how to balance edge performance with edge durability and longevity. I’ve found it’s best to start with wider angles for a more durable edge that maybe doesn’t cut the very best but it also doesn’t require a lot less steel to be sacrificed to apply the wide profile. Narrow angle bevels are tall and thin bevels, w…[Read more]
