The bottom photo is my original Alignment guide. It’s from about 6 years ago. It’s made of thin steel. I laid the original steel strip guide on top of the newer lexan AAG so the pin holes of the steel guide are placed superimposed over the pin holes on the new Advanced Alignment Guide. The top photo I simply slid the new plastic basic Aligment g…[Read more]

cmyhero, I feel your the exasperation I’m reading here. But you have not really shared anything more then you’re having a problem getting the burr the same from side to side.
Maybe if you share more specific information or posted some photos of the knife and the bevels it may help us to help you.
I’m not one to blame a knife or a piece of…[Read more]

Are you saying the bevel on one side is taller than the other side? Or the bevel angle is different from one side to the next?

A magnified visual aid, such as a jeweler’s loop or a USB microscope will allow you to see exactly what your bevels look like. This will help you determine what’s going on.
Like Readheads suggests it may be an angle issue. It could be in the knife’s primary grind symmetry, or in the knife’s clamped position, or possibly in the angle’s the s…[Read more]

I innovate….try drilling two more holes in the AAG in the top corner, straight above the first pair. Then use it turned upside down, it still has the grids and the numbers. It’ll give you a usable position reference. If need be, to make it taller, try turning it 180º then drill two more holes and use it like that. It’ll work in any ori…[Read more]

I’ll try one last time…. for me, stropping helps my sharpened knife edges simply slide more easily through the substrate I’m cutting or slicing by finely polishing the apex of the bevels. My knife edge is very strong and sharp to start. Stropping enhances the bevel’s edges lessening the friction as the very fine remnant scratches are filled a…[Read more]

Modernflame, your still relatively new in your W.E. sharpening user experience. To you I say K.I.S.S.
You are attempting to employ a lot of different mediums in an order of use that seems logical to you. Possibly you are following someone else’s suggestion or guidance.
The issue I want of suggest is that each different medium you choose to…[Read more]

Not every knife is able to be sharpened with the Wicked Edge. In most situations there are helpful workarounds, two of these you mentioned:
If you find that you’ll be facing this sharpening situation from time to time, it may be helpful to buy a set of W.E. stones that you do remove the plastic finger guards. You can still don a pair of cut f…[Read more]

That’s what I call “the art of sharpening “. It’s when you realize that there’s more to sharpening then just stringing together a bunch of decreasing grit mediums. That the sequence can and does make a difference. It takes time, trials and experience to learn what you like and what order gives you the results you seek.
