Also if you make your own alignment guide from a long metal ruler….If you sharpen larger kitchen type knives that get center clamped with knife portions both forward and behind the jaw center-line, you may want to place holes in the center of the ruler so it can give you position markers on both sides of the vice jaws.

I’m sure they’ll replace them both. It’s just an inconvenience. If you make your own metal one try to drill holes so it fits the depth key pins snuggly to stands out straight, horizontally so does flop or hang down.

Are you sure the blue isn’t a peel off plastic backing? Mine came with a blue peel off backing.

My guess is they were thinking you could better see the knives position when the see-through thin plastic ruler overlapped the knives behind it, like seen with the taller Advanced Alignment Guide, (AAG).

I’m sure if you contact Wicked Edge customer service they would like to hear your feedback. I believe you must have an AAG from a badly printed batch. I’m sure they will gladly replace it for you.
I agree the thin narrow ruler type (standard) alignment guide lacks the integrity seen in the original thin steel earlier model alignment gu…[Read more]

Aaron, I’m sorry to hear your frustration. Finishing the edge, after the 1000 grit, with the leather strops will enhance the paper cutting ability by smoothing the sharpened edge removing some of the toothiness.
With enough effort and attention to detail throughout your sharpening progression up to and including the 1000 grit stone you should b…[Read more]

Welcome to our Wicked Edge Forum and Sharpening Community, Chad. The Gen 3 Pro is a great choice to attain those mirrored polished bevels. The sharpening stones/paddles have about a 10 knife break-in period before they start to give their best results. I suggest you utilize this break in period as your learning period while sharpening your old…[Read more]

I did cut them shorter using a sharp razor knife pressed hard between the threads to make a starter cut. They’ll just snap at the cut.

I have and still prefer to use the older larger mini “L” brackets with the screw thread locking system like you have. I have substituted the metal black knobbed locking screws with nylon knurled knob thumb screws. I use two of these nylon screws on each side, opposing one another, one threaded into the front facing side hole and another one in t…[Read more]

Todd, I think you should consider upgrading your “standard” vice you now use with the WE130-Gen 3 Vice for $230. Since you already have compatible rod arms and a compatible mounting platform, with loosening a couple screws you can have your setup with the newest Gen 3 Vice System offered. It’s the same vice utilized in the Gen 3 Pro model. …[Read more]

Got to love Amazon Prime if you buy enough stuff to make it worthwhile, then it’s worth the price of admission. Especially because it includes the streaming movies, music and books.

Michael are you into highly polished bevels? If so maybe additional glass or aluminum platens and more lapping films to fill down the progression, (3µ, 1.5µ and 1µ). You could add some more finer grit strops to fill down that progression, (2µ, 1µ, and 0.5µ).
You didn’t mention if you use a lighted magnified visual aid to see better what you’re…[Read more]

Please post how it holds up. I’m curios how that narrow bevel will perform and stand up. VG10 is respectably hard SS, but that’s pretty narrow for a practical use knife.
You get an “A” for execution. That’s not easy to put that narrow a bevel on a large knife with the LAA! -
Marc H replied to the topic motion and range of movement for WE GO in the forum Getting Started 6 years, 2 months ago
Anton, I stand corrected. Wicked Edge longer guide rods are comptible with the WE GO. There is not a riser block offered. You’d have to make your own modification.

Travis, just curious, was 11º per side matching the factory bevels? Or did you just choose to set the edge the the narrow?

Ditto the slippery tape… I also adopted and have applied the teflon slippery tape to my USB scope’s lens shroud based on Tom’s (tcmeyer) recommendation, learned years ago, reading on this Forum.

Welcome to the Wicked Edge Forum Aaron. There are a lot of good and inexpensive USB Microscopes available these days. You might shop these on Amazon. Depending on the compatible device you’ll use it with may determine your selection. Here’s a new model Rack-It I was commissioned to design and build for forum member N Keil 2005.
I call it the Rigid Hybrid Rack-It. You can use it hanging on the wall and on the bench top, too. No moving parts or folding legs. It incorporates a removable plastic storage box to hold your various regularly used sharpening tools. It has bui…[Read more]
