developer (ChrisB) started the topic Recent Forum Problems (should be resolved now) in the forum Forum Usability Notes and Requests 7 months, 3 weeks ago
We’ve seen some page load problems on the forum recently. For example the page header (menu) would load, but not the forum content. Our hosting provider diagnosed it as needing more memory available on our server, and so they have increased that. Please reply here if you hit problems with page loads or other tech issues.

My knife is so sharp I pointed it at a whole young chicken and its breasts fell off into fillets and the wings grilled themselves

developer (ChrisB) started the topic FYI: Technical issues that auto-hide some Topics and Replies in the forum Forum Usability Notes and Requests 3 years, 1 month ago
For some reason, some new Topics and Replies are automatically hidden (put in to a queue for moderators to review). We’re working to figure this out and fix it, and it appears that it’s a continuation of a problem from a couple of weeks ago, that we thought we had already fixed.
The common thread seems to be that the Topic or Reply contains a…[Read more]

A quick update (although not yet a solution). We’re working to solve the root problem, but until then:
- Avoid using the toolbar button to create a link; this seems to trigger the problem (replies are hidden, until manually approved by a moderator)
HUGE thanks to MarcH and Airscapes for their troubleshooting, which has led to this discovery.

Thanks all, for your great troubleshooting. It seems that any topic or reply that includes links is automatically removed until it’s approved by a moderator.
But I don’t know why this has started to happen. We run several anti-spam plugins, any one of which could’ve received a recent update that changes its behavior. So I’m in the process of…[Read more]

Just a note to say that, whatever is happening, it isn’t intentional. I’m looking into it, but don’t have any working theories yet.

Hi All – Quick admin note, to try and avoid any confusion. While I think this is a great thread, I (the “Developer” profile) didn’t originally create it. As it was from 2015, and we’ve updated our forum a couple of times, migrating old posts as we go, many of the old posts got reassigned to my profile as the original user no longer had an…[Read more]

I think this is one for a support ticket with the Wicked Edge team, https://support.wickededgeusa.com/portal/newticket.
I hope you’re able to get it back up and functioning soon.

Hi Keith – Welcome! It’s Chris, and I’m glad I could help.
I also used my WE on kitchen knives, for the most part. I’ve brought back-to-life a couple of cheap paring knives, and a 9″ butcher knife, and several in between.

Thanks for the input, we always appreciate it when forum members provide usability requests (for background, I help keep the forum up and running; and for usability, I’m in kind of a facilitator role, but not the decision maker, which is in Clay’s bailiwick).
For attachments, we’ve really emphasized making them usable as embedded content in the…[Read more]

developer (ChrisB) started the topic A couple of recent spammers, but overall not too bad in the forum Forum Usability Notes and Requests 4 years, 4 months ago
The spammers seem to come in waves, where for a period of time they’ll put in the effort to make it into the forum, and then they take a couple of months off. We’ve had 2 recent successful spam posts, the first since September, and before that it was April. So, I’m just sharing this list of spam posts in case anyone finds it interesting. This…[Read more]

Hi, just as an admin note from a forum moderator… This post made it in twice, and so I’ve closed the duplicate post.

Hi Todd, thanks for the feedback. That’s a good suggestion; I’ve disabled the recaptcha for logins for existing users. If it turns out that this allows a way for spammers to get in, we may have to reenable it, but here’s hoping it works.

developer (ChrisB) replied to the topic Knife database (user-submitted settings) is back in the forum Task Specific Knife Sharpening 4 years, 8 months ago
Idea… We should add a field to link to youtube videos, or other video hosting, as I do see a lot of people post knife-specific videos. And then you take your settings (angles, progression, etc.) and add that to the form.
