I’m not an expert either but I rarely use a strop. For most knives I like to have a 800 or 1000 grit toothy edge. Then I give the blade a couple of alternating edge leading strokes to make sure there is no burr left. Done.

LOL!! That would definitely be cost less!

I guess it depends on the sword. But it would probably be nice to be able to slide the clamps around on the rails for quick adjustments. I guess you could just drill new holes and move one or more clamps here or there if you wanted to bolt the clamps down onto a table or bench.

If I wanted to sharpen large swords, I would set up a 3 clamp rail system similar to Marcs’ setup with the clamps about 14 – 16 inches apart.

On BF also. Someone PM’d me on BF asking me to tell them the dimensions of the WE130 angle bar. I ignored him. LOL!

They are inexpensive enough to have for in case a situation does arrive where you may need one.

That looks nice. I don’t see how they can make them at that price!

Thanks, Brewbear. That Silver Fox looks nice. I’ll get a 112 auto eventually, maybe next month. I think everyone should have at least one decent fixed blade knife though.

Hello guys! My new Buck 120 General just came home yesterday. It has the Cocobolo DymaLux handle with a brass guard, pommel and a decent sheath. It is hair shaving sharp! It wasn’t easy but I trimmed my beard a little bit with it. The clip point worked pretty good trimming around my mustache.
I can’t wait to get it clamped up in my WE130. But…[Read more]

I thought that using the belleville washers was a brilliant idea while I was examining my WE. Much more dependable than using a spring.
I leave my handle on while sharpening. I just turn the lever at a 45° angle to the clamp. When I want to release the clamp, I just put my fingers under the lever with my thumb on the base, then lift the lever…[Read more]

Your knife is sharp when their knife will not cut it, but your knife will. LOL!

Thanks, Marc. That is what I figured from examining my WE when I took it apart. Isn’t your brass pins in upside down? I thought that my clamp had them in with the radiused end up. But I didn’t take a photo of them that I can find, which is unusual for me since I normally take many more photos of things than I need. So since I don’t have a photo to…[Read more]

Cool! I have my stones sitting exactly like you do when I measure the angles. I also tape my clamp up with painters tape.

Thanks, Marc. I guess that I watched that video also because that is what I do. When profiling a blade for the first time, I alternate from side to side with the up/down stoning as well to try and bring the apex in removing the least possible amount of steel. That way when one side goes all the way to the apex, it won’t take much stoning to get…[Read more]
