You can also buy the Low Angle Adapter which will let you mount your knife higher which in turn lets you raise your angle on the arms and get them away from the vise. You definitely need the Angle Cube though. I never even use the markings on the bar anyway.

07/11/2015 at 3:51 pm #25975Hey bud. Mount your knife into the Wicked edge clamp. Then Mark the bevel with a sharpie. Then move the arms in or out and try 1000 gritstone over the edge until one stroke removes all of the sharpie. Once you have removed all of the sharpie you know you have reached the factory edge angle. If you want to resharpen at the factory angle go ahead and sharpen at this point. If you would like to increase the angle , go ahead and drop the angle a degree or two. A lower angle will give you better slicing ability but will reduce the strength of the edge. Let me know if this helps at all. Good luck

Attachments:05/04/2015 at 4:20 pm #25501Sorry for my original post. I was so pissed that day…I just had to vent, I’ve had multiple knives that will pop out of the LAA. Looks like I’m not the only one.

Attachments:04/20/2015 at 1:47 am #25312Started with the 50/80s and worked my way all the way through the diamonds. Then to the micro ceramics, 14/10 on balsa, 5&3.5 on leather,1 & .5 on kangaroo, .5 & .25 on nano. Super sharp. I’ve found a way to get a super mirror polish with that setup

Attachments:04/17/2015 at 9:20 pm #25283It depends on how much you use the stones per knife. I had to replace mine after around 100 sharpening’s because I reprofiled a lot. So I purchased the 50/80s and use them on an old fixed blade knife till I broke those in very well. If you use the 50/80s right away on a good knife it will scratch the crap out of the knife because the diamonds are going everywhere. I still Apex the edge on my 5080s but when I do I run a 1000 grit stone over the edge which gives me a flat surface and then Apex it again with the 200 grit stones that makes it a lot easier that way

04/16/2015 at 2:23 pm #25270I suggest lapping your micro fine ceramics. That will help them a lot. My polishing changed dramatically after I did that. Also…if you’re going to get anything extra…get the 14/10 strops. They will help tremendously on getting you to a mirror polish

Attachments:04/13/2015 at 6:38 pm #25213Had a customer send me a fake Strider to sharpen and I think he probably spent as much on me sharpening it as he did the knife to begin with! Oh well….its screaming sharp now. It had a huge chip in the blade and he had tried to put a 18 degree bevel on it with a Lansky and kind of messed it up so I had to put a pretty high bevel on it to cover up his handy work but it turned out pretty good. That nightmare grind was interesting to sharpen as well. The blade gets a lot thicker near the middle to end of the blade and really thin near the back. Check it out!

Attachments:04/03/2015 at 5:04 am #24949Guys do I have to add alcohol to the strops every time I strop if I don’t apply paste
You don’t have to but it does help sometimes if your strips feel dry or they feel too sticky.
