07/25/2013 at 6:52 am #13559Those knives have never been that sharp! Especially the Camillus. I have that same Gerber Ultralight for almost 30 years, it’s a good little guy..
Nice job Darrel!07/25/2013 at 6:37 am #13557“Bienvenue” from a French enthusiast WE user!

07/19/2013 at 11:29 pm #13448Hey, thank you all for your kind comments. That’s very encouraging!
I’m not very happy with 2 things
1. The screws of the mount (is it the correct word for that?) are not very “industrial” looking. So’ I’m looking for something more professional (your ideas are welcome!),
2. I’m not happy with the color of the mount either, wich is not the same as the one of the base. So, I’m going to try a varnish layer of the same color of the base,
The base is made of beech wood, the mount is made of pine wood.I thought about glueing the the mount on the base but I’m afraid that it would not be very strong.

How think is that base? It looks to be about 2″The base is 2″ thick. Dimensions are 12×12″.
07/14/2013 at 4:33 pm #13294Thank you Curtis,
I’ve taken a look at the thread and found that Tormek accessory for small blades. I didn’t know about it. it seems good. I’ve ordered it to give it a try.07/06/2013 at 5:59 pm #13097I’ve had the same problem at the begining, when I sharpened my first knives. I got a new pair of jaws from Wicked Edge and I thought about what I had probably done wrong in order to get those jaws bent.
I noticed that it was probably because I tightened the vise too much (well, the only possible cause!). The reason for that was because when I wanted to sharpen, let’s say, a full flat grind knife for example, I did not use any adhesive tape so the blade slipped in the vise and I needed to tighten and tighten again. Too much…
So, to make a long story short, I use tape on every knife I sharpen now. I use that kind of tape which is used by painters. It’s relatively thick, soft and most of all, non-slippery without being double sided adhesive. It protects the blade from scratches and helps to have it firmly maintained in the vise without tightening it too much. Since then, I kept my jaws as straight as on the first day.07/05/2013 at 12:18 am #13048I’ve always used protective tape for painters. It has a thick texture that prevents the blade from slipping in the clamp.
